Refraction is the process by which the doctor uses various lenses to see which one would suit best for your prescription glasses. This is a common process during an eye test.
The duration of your eye test may vary. A common eye test may take 45 minutes or an hour. However, if the health of your eyes is bad, the eye test may take longer.
There are some common tests that are conducted during a normal eye examination.
The Retinoscopy is a common test that is conducted first, when you go for an eye test. It involved reading letters off a chart that is placed at a distance from where you are positioned to sit. This helps the eye doctor to determine whether your vision is bad and needs correction. The doctor may ask you to stare at a particular letter while he shines a light in your eye to check how light is being reflected from your eye. This will also help in determining whether your vision needs correction.
The slit lamp may be used by the eye doctor to examine the structure of your eyes and diagnose any eye diseases, if there are any.
These are the common procedures undertaken at a regular eye test and are the most basic processes that are used to find out about your eyesight.
Eye tests should be taken on a regular basis to find out how well our eyes are doing. Routine eye tests are very important for our health. Like any other examination by a physician, an eye doctor will use various instruments, test and procedures, during an eye test to find out about the health of your eyes and whether your eyesight needs any correction. You can come out of an eye test with either a 100% correct vision, a minor prescription or sometimes you may be recommended some intensive care if your vision is very poor.
The dilation test may also be conducted, where eye drops are placed in the eyes and the eyes are later tested for diseases. This helps in assessing the health of the internal structures of your eye.
You may also be given a cover test, where the doctor covers one eye to check how much the other eye has to move to establish focus on one point. This helps the eye doctor to diagnose problems such as poor depth perception.
