What Will It Take to Get What You Want?
Written by Curt Gorlick
Do you know some of the reasons why you might not be getting what you want?
I'm not just talking about material things. You may want a better relationship with your spouse, significant other, maybe your kids, your parents, or some of your friends. You may even want to have a better relationship with yourself so you can do some of the things you put on hold for a later date. How about better relationships with the people at your job or possibly to grow your business?
You may be longing for a better balanced life so you have more time to do the things you've been dying to do. It seems like there's always something that gets in your way. And since you're great at justifying your actions you might be telling stories like...
"When the kids are out of the house, then we will have a better relationship,"
"I have to work so many hours now, so I will have money to do what I want later on."
"When the timing is right I'll take those piano lessons. I would love to play the piano."
Being aware of what you're saying to yourself and to others is quite eye opening. Try it, you may even surprise yourself.
If you're not getting some of the things you're wanting now, chances are you may never have them. I'm sorry to be so blunt but it's true.
I find that many of you focus on all the things you don't want any more in your life. Why is it that you focus on the negative as opposed to the positive? Could it be that ever since you were a baby you heard your parents telling you...
"Don't do that!"
"Don't throw your clothes on the floor."
"Stop watching television and start doing your homework."
My goodness, from such a young age you've been told what not to do. What would be different for you if you were told positive things? What a concept!
Well, that was then and this is now. What you typically put out into the Universe is what you'll attract. Now is the time to start saying positive things to yourself so positive things will start to happen for you.
You don't know what you want? I completely understand because many people who I talk with have no idea what they want either. So, let's try something different from what you've been doing for years. Start saying positive things and also develop a new mindset.
Here's a tool to help you to decide what you want. Take out a piece of paper and a pen and draw a line down the center of the paper. You now have a left and a right half. On the left side at the top write "Things I No Longer Want." On the right side at the top write "Things I Do Want." Now on the left side write down all the things you no longer want in your life. Yes, all the things you're now saying on a daily basis. After you do that, on the line to the right of each of the negative statements write down the opposite (the positive) of each of those statements.
For example:
Things I No Longer Want
“I’m tired of doing what everybody else wants me to do.”
“I’m not going to hold things inside of me anymore.”
“I’m going to stop eating junk food.”
Things I Do Want
“I say Yes to what I want and it feels great!”
“I share my thoughts and feelings, what a relief!”
“I eat healthily and I feel and look better than ever before.”
Are you ready to give it a try?

A Look at Avoidant Attachment Styles and How They Work
The early development of avoidant attachment creates a coping mechanism that forms in childhood. Disconnected parent-child interactions typically trigger this condition. Dr. Venus Nicolino: You Have To Make Yourself Available To Find Good Relationships
The idea of making yourself more desirable by making yourself less available doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it. After all, Juliet would have plunged a premature dagger into the heart of her romance with Romeo if she hid in her room rather than go out on her balcony. The end of Sleepless in Seattle shifts from "awww" to "aw, no" if one of the two main characters skips the trip to the Empire State Building. As these examples from fiction show, making yourself
