You may not FEEL a physical spanking but you can feel a disconnect: things are not okay. A singe not to pray, an avoidance and yes…you may begin to live a noisy life so that you cannot hear God. Admit it: Your on the “outs” with God. When your in trouble with God you know it. You feel a disconnect you cannot necessarily explain. Take practical steps toward healing your relationship with God, whether its been one day or several years.
~~~~~
A. THE GOAL: That you would recommit to your relationship with God.
Theme Verse: Jeremiah 18:4-8 4 But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so the potter squashed the jar into a lump of clay and started again. 5 Then the LORD gave me this message: 6 “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand. 7 If I announce that a certain nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down, and destroyed, 8 but then that nation renounces its evil ways, I will not destroy it as I had planned.
Did you realize God wants you to know it is okay to start over? God is not content if we simply give up, and now He wants us to make the decision to start the process again.
B. GOD GIVES US OPTIONS:
Does the scripture give us any indication of when and if God gives us options? It does. Jeremiah 18:8 8 but then that nation renounces its evil ways, I will not destroy it as I had planned. Jeremiah is told by the Lord we have choices of whether we choose evil or good and after our choice the Lord then ignites consequence or blessings. This is what Jeremiah 18:10 says: But then that nation turns to evil and refuses to obey me, I will not bless that nation as I had said I would.
C. SOME PRACTICAL THOUGHTS TO REMEMBER:
We are focusing on getting out of trouble with God. According to the bible, because we are in relationship with God we have all been there. Every Christian needs to develop in order to understand what it takes to mature and keep open communication and relationship with God.
1. In order to keep in relationship with God we need to remember you are not the standard—The Bible
2. When you find an avenue to improve we need to acknowledge—Prayer
3. Pray that God will change His mind if we are in trouble—Repent
4. Determine your commitment level toward God—Commitment
5. Lean on others believers for Guidance and Growth—Fellowship
In concluding, regardless of how you FEEL, remember emotions are a temporal state. However, you may want to tune in to your emotions and analyze your physical and spiritual relationship with God. A singe not to pray, meditate or quit you life may be an indication 'everything is not okay'. Simply do a, what I call, spirit-check. Follow these steps and you'll be back in action! Getting out of trouble with God is the easy part! You'll be glad you did!
Maintaining your standing can be tricky...but we'll talk about that next time.
