Where Nursery Rhymes have come from?

Bah, Bah a black Sheep,
Have you any Wool?
Yes merry have I,
Three Bags full,
One for my master,
One for my Dame,
One for the little Boyr
That lives down the lane.

Every one of us comes across many rhymes in the times of our Nursery education. “Bah, Bah a black sheep” is one of the most popular rhymes that every literate person has listened to. In fact, we have also come across other well known set of Nursery rhymes such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars, Hickory Dickory Dock, Jack and Jill and there are many others. Rhymes are easy to remember for their rhyming character.

It is also known to be as one of the significant components because when many people were not in a state to read or write, rhymes were passed verbally from one generation to the other generation. It has almost become a tradition of every parent to teach their children different rhymes. In fact, schools also put a deep focus on teaching kids rhymes. It is a trend of the schools that, the more new rhymes a school teach to its students, much better the school is known to be. Does anybody have any clue about where the concept of nursery rhymes has come from? Well, most of the nursery rhymes have come from historical events or situations. The Nursery rhymes are the songs or poems with rhyming words that are chanted by adults to teach children.

It is found in almost every culture of the world and this comes under oral or folk tradition. The nursery rhymes are being passed from person to person, from one generation to another generation, by word of mouth and memory. With the time, the styles of rhymes have also changed. In schools, many new rhymes have replaced the old ones. In the present times rhymes are being also written down. Rhymes actually began with a motive to teach children some stories in a way that can attract their interest, but some of them also refer to historical events, some make fun of real people; whereas, others are bits and pieces of ancient charms and rituals, while some are mysteries and proverbs meant mainly for the adults. Nursery rhymes come in the form of verse or chorus from any famous ballad or stage song that was remained in peoples’ memory.

With the rhythmic lines, every rhyme usually contains some funny and some serious story. Parents find it delighting when they successfully recite the rhymes with hand gestures and other actions in front of their kids and the toddlers also find it interesting to learn the rhymes from their elders, either in schools or at their homes. Every child is taught rhymes before their educational days start. In fact, when they go to schools for the first time, rhymes are the first thing that is being taught to them. The books of rhymes are also designed in a very colorful manner; so as to attract the attention of the kids.
