Beauty so often gets distorted as a value of external conditions but beauty is also an internal quality that shines when we are being true to ourselves.
We are so unique in how we bring beauty to our world. There are countless ways people can be “lit up” by their surroundings and there are as many ways we can contribute that beauty to the world around us. I have a friend who finds inspiration at the negotiation table as she navigates a line between what may feel like opposite sides but often is simply a difference in how a similar desire is being expressed. Another friend is in her element advocating for individuals on the peripheral of mainstream society as she helps them find their voices. Another is most aligned with herself as she creates amazing places for animals that no one else seems to value. Others find that zone at the boardroom table, in a kayak on the lake, cleaning their house, visiting a friend, encouraging a work mate, loving their children, making something from scratch, balancing a checkbook. . . I could go on but I suspect you understand where I’m heading.
We all can live our lives beautifully by taking the time to realize what we naturally love to do. What makes our heart race with excitement, what gives us a sense of peace, what makes us feel good all over?
As for me – I like to make beautiful spaces – the kinds of spaces people tend to want to hunker down and stay for awhile, the kinds of places where it’s okay to let your guard down and speak your truth. I also truly enjoy cooking up feasts for good friends as an excuse to laugh an evening away, and I love good dark coffee and writing in my sunroom. That’s not all of me – but each is a way I recognize that I bring beauty into the world.
It feels sometimes that people get so focused on the task at hand; on what needs to be done. It often becomes easier to identify with what we DO instead of who we ARE.
It’s true, things need to get done. But don’t you find that doing those things with a full heart tends to make the tasks go more smoothly and actually leaves you feeling happier? It’s really not so much what we do as it is how we do it.
Where do you bring beauty into the world?
Do you do it when you honor who you are by recognizing your own value? Do you do it by dreaming about where you’re going and what you want to experience in this lifetime? Do you do it by giving yourself a break now and again; asking yourself “what would make me feel good right now?” and then following through with it?
Oh for some of you these may feel like self indulgent questions. But are they really?
Each of us brings tremendous beauty to this world and when we recognize who we truly are, that beauty actually begins to expand, to grow, to bleed into every area of our lives and then it does this magical, mystical thing – it inspires others to do the same. And the world just gets more beautiful.
