Who will Generate Jobs? The Democrats? Really?

Will the Democrats really generate jobs as their leader Obama claims? A little bit of nosing around could deny or affirm this. When the aft part of the airplane Dreamliner arrived at last there was a flurry of activity among the 5,000 non-union workers as they got down to assembling the first aircraft in North Charleston, North Carolina – behind schedule by three years.

On it depends the future of Boeing as well as the future of the nation. Despite the delay Boeing continues to have order for 827 Dreamliners worth a handsome amount of $162 billion. When most of the manufacturing units have been outsourced abroad Boeing has maintained its sizeable manufacturing presence in America and is the largest manufactured goods exporter.

The unionized work force of Boeing has always been doing the work in Puget Sound, Washington. The majority of the Dreamliners will continued to be built there but since the delay is considerable Boeing has decided to open another facility in South Carolina spending $750 million. The two plants are expected to build ten airplanes in a month. This is the plan.

But the Obama government has other plans. Last April the National Labor Relations Board submitted a complaint targeting Boeing with the charge that it has set up the North Carolina unit as retaliation against unionized workers. The solution offered by NLRB is to shift back all the manufacturing to Puget Sound deserting the 5,000 workers in South Carolina! It is hard to believe that such a plan could be chalked.

It is difficult to find another instance when the government dictated to a company where it will set up manufacturing. Boeing is fighting this complaint. J. Michael Luttig the general counsel of Boeing described the suggestion as “unprecedented”. He added that it was disservice to USA at a time when the country is “in desperate need of economic growth and the concomitant job creation”. He could not be more right.

At this point of time nothing is more important than job creation. Very recently Obama raised his voice promising job packages in the Midwest in September. He did not fail to blame the Republicans for thwarting efforts. Republicans too have never paused in their consistent attack on the government contending that it is regulatory overkill that is preventing business houses from generating jobs. Both are right.
