Why an Armed Security Guard is the Right Choice to Protect Your Assets
Written by Twin City Security Dallas
If you are a business owner, it is quite possible that you often need to transfer substantial sums from your place of business to your bank. You may have stored the checks and cash in a secure safe at your store, but the time has come to deposit your profits. While there may be a few trustworthy employees at the store with you, it is not uncommon for the business to have a significant number of customers at any given time. While we all want to assume the very best of our fellow man, not everyone can be trusted.
In such a situation, you have one of two choices. You can either hire an unarmed security guard or an armed security guard to protect you, your customers, and your business. As you approach the front of the store with your bank envelopes in hand, which guard would you rather have protecting your business?
While an unarmed security guard is there to protect you and your customers against a robbery, he or she may not seem all that foreboding in merely a uniform, armed only with a taser or mace. The guard may give off the “mall cop” appearance to any threats to your deposit and the store’s security. It is obvious he or she does not have any body armor or lethal weapons on his or her person. In the instance of an armed robber, this security guard may not be able to do much to protect your assets, although he or she may deter illegal activity to some degree.
On the other hand, you can hire a fully trained and armed security guard. The guard instantly sends out message of “I mean business” with a confident demeaner and obvious deadly weapon. This guard has been trained to be aware of surroundings and is able to safely escort you and your bank despot to the car. He or she can even accompany you to the bank if you feel there could still be a threat. The guard consistently is aware of the people entering and leaving your place of business and is alert to any illegal or suspicious activity. When confronting a shoplifter, the guard’s foreboding appearance has the perpetrator shaking in their boots. The guard is easily able to maintain an atmosphere of order and security at your business.
Which Security Guard Should You Choose for Your Business?
After considering how to best protect one’s assets and customers, most people determine an armed security guard is the safest way to go. It seems much less viable that your business will be compromised, and your money stolen with armed security in place. These skilled professionals dare criminals to mess with them, conveying the message that this property and its patrons are safe with me. If you are a business with high dollar items in store, or frequently have large sums of cash on hand, an armed security guard can protect you from theft. Left unprotected these types of businesses are often the first ones targeted by criminals.
This is certainly a decision that should be taken very seriously. Not every patron will feel comfortable with armed security walking about, but many will feel a sense of safety knowing that in an emergency they will be protected. The presence of a guard can be a tool that deters criminals from attempting criminal activity in the first place. Certainly, robbers will be looking for establishments that can be most easily compromised, not those where armed and skilled professionals are vigilantly monitoring the area. Armed guards also allow staff and customers to feel a sense of safety. Statistics prove that armed security guards greatly reduce the number of incidences that occur in stores that previously experienced high losses. Depending upon your business’s circumstances, you may or may not determine an armed guard is the best choice, but for many the addition of a guard will pay for itself as it prevents and reduces the number of thefts, as well as provides peace of mind.
