Why Has Your Marriage Gone Stale: How to Prevent a Stagnant Marriage

Why has your marriage gone stale? At some point, however far back you first saw each other. Maybe it was love at first sight, or maybe you took a bit of time to get to know each other. You both must have liked what you saw because you ended up in a committed relationship. After a while you both realised that you wanted to spend the rest of your lives together and you got married. You both lived happily ever after, the end.

Well, actually, marriage is not the end, it is the start of your real relationship. Prior to getting married, although you were in a relationship you could have walked away, it is a lot more difficult to do that now. Whilst you were single, your thoughts and actions were on the whole directed for what was best for you, you cannot do that now, another person has entered the equation. There is no automatic happily ever after, happiness does not come automatically just because you got married, you have to work at it.

You could be together for decades so it is in your interest to keep your marriage alive. That sounds serious, but look at it another way, if you both work at building a loving, fulfilling, happy and contented marriage, do you think that you will enjoy those decades?

Why has your marriage gone stale? You need to identify your problems, deal with them, then look at how to make you marriage even better.

I would say that in most cases there are probably 3 main problems:

1. Lack Of Communication

A lack of communication has been identified as one of the main contributors to marital and relationship breakdowns. Communication first drew you together. It was communication that helped you to get to know each other better. And it was communication that drew you down the path to marriage. For your marriage to succeed you need to be open and honest with each other, you need to be able to share each others lives. If you do not communicate, what do you have that ties you together? Why has your marriage gone stale? Because you have let the spark die out.

2. Not Spending Quality Time Together

It does not matter if you have kids or other commitments, you have to spend quality time together. You two are the most important thing in your marriage, without you there is no marriage. You bring up your kids so that they can leave you. The one sure constant is the two of you, you could be together for decades so make sure that you enjoy, and make the most of your time together.

Spending You time together helps to bring you closer and strengthens your bonds. It gives you the chance to enjoy yourselves, and to take pleasure in being in each others company. It does not matter what you do, go on a date, go for a walk, take a class, or just curl up in front of the T.V together. What matters is that you are happy and enjoying yourselves. To make life more interesting you could try sharing interests, or doing new things together.

3. And as a result of the first 2, Familiarity Breeds Contempt.

It can happen that as you get more used to each other that the excitement starts to wear of and you start to take your marriage for granted. Nothing is special, you just go through your routines, you put nothing into the marriage and you take nothing out. If left unchecked this can destroy your marriage.

Why has your marriage gone stale? Because you took it for granted, because you did nothing to make it work, because you let the bonds between you and your spouse start to fade away. When you were dating and getting to know each other you must have had some fun, and talked for hours. Having fun and talking does not have to stop just because you get married, if anything, it should get better because you are now much closer together. Do not waste your marriage spending time growing apart, instead do what you can to create the best marriage possible.

Are you nearing the end of your rope and need help to improve your marriage or else? I won't be covering the "what else" in this article because I want you to be confident that today is the day that frustration, anger and disappointment start to get replaced with joy, peace and an improved marriage.

People say that marriage is difficult and I disagree 100%. Marriage isn't difficult, people are. By the way, I include myself in the difficult people category. You must agree that if couples simply understood their marriage vows and followed them divorce would be the exception instead of the norm. Here are some surefire ways to help you improve your relationship.

Unite

To unite means to act in concert or unite in a common purpose or belief. If you want your marriage to become as it was intended to be it's important that you and your spouse focus on ensuring that you are going in the same direction. If you have similar goals, dreams and are working toward them you will build an unbreakable bond.

Uniting also means that your marriage should come first. No-one, family or friends included should be able to come between you. Work and hobbies must not separate you either. It doesn't mean that you will agree on everything but because you know you have each others best interest at heart it will be easier to deal with your differences.

What if your spouse don't love you anymore? Here's how to get them addicted to you like when you fell in love for the first time

Do Stuff Together

If you want to really improve your marriage make sure you are doing stuff you like together. I'm talking about something that makes you move and laugh and regret when it's over. Make time to do something that you enjoy. The key is that your spouse must join in and the two of you should have the time of your life. Your spouse has to also do the same thing with you supporting him or her. The point is to create memories that will remind you of what you have and confirm the friendship and love you still have for each other.

Eliminate Useless Fights

If there is one instant way to improve your marriage starting right this very second is you and your spouse committing to not fighting over silly and useless things. I'm sorry but hair in the shower, non replacement of toilet tissue and remote control ownership should be conversations and not fights. If you want to quickly start to fix your marriage only have fights over things that affect the heart. If you are hurting emotionally or mentally then I suggest you fight to make things better. Otherwise you are slowly but surely killing your relationship.

As I mentioned, improving your marriage is not complicated, but people are. If you start to eliminate the simple things that are keeping you from being in a happy and healthy marriage, you will quickly start reaping the benefits of an improved marriage.

Most marriages end up bliss, at least 25% of them. The other 25% of them are in malaise. The other 50% end up in divorce. What makes a good marriage? Studies show that marriages last longer when both partners are as similar as possible. This includes across social, intellectual, and economic barriers. Men and women get along best when they're the most similar. Go figure. It's simple advice, but few people take it.

Most people marry out of a desire to marry someone different and fill those gaps that they are missing in themselves. Men and women constantly berate each other and argue when they come up against the same problems and have different solutions. Both sides are usually too childish to find common ground, and there is no unity in the family unit. Therefore, the children suffer. Marriages shouldn't be founded on bad traits. Marriages should be founded on similarity. Plain and simple. Men and women were intended to live together in peace as long as they were similar. Men and women can't merely be expected to sustain a marriage over dozens of years without a basis of similarity. Different people should be friends.

What if your spouse already left you? Here's how to get them back.

One of the simplest things to having a good marriage is to be nice and not nitpick. No one is a truly compatible match so you should shrug off the little conflicts and move on to more meaningful connections. Long-lasting marriages are built on more than just great communication. Irreconcilable differences are actually normal, as well, but it's the couples that can look past them that succeed. There is no point in trying to resolve the unresolvable. Most research indicates that couples are unhappy with marital therapy, and the problems keep coming back. Long-lasting marriages are about knowing your partner, being nice, and being supportive. Short-lasting marriages are about passion, flirtations, and the obvious mechanics of just sticking it in there and getting out. The last line is a little crude, but that's how some men think on a subconscious level.

There are men out there that just want to get married because of the sex being condoned by society and allowed in a society that doesn't really kindly on other forms of sex. American society loves marriage, but hates sex. Don't let that influence your decision-making in getting married in the first place.

Men and women should read articles together on what creates a happy marriage so that they end up together in a more lasting and happy marriage, and they can recognize the faults and obvious negativity that is going to arise.

Even if both spouses love each other sincerely, at times they might find themselves getting more and more distant from each other and getting close to a divorce. But like me, you too can take some steps into saving your marriage and turning it into a satisfying relationship.

The Things I Did That You Can Do Too In Order to Stop Unwanted Divorce...

I first started by deciding that divorce wasn't something that I was going to accept. Basically I burned the bridge of divorce right behind me and never looked back. It was a huge longshot since basically divorce was a stack of paperwork away, but I resisted it. Wouldn't it have been easier to just go through with the divorce?

Sometimes it felt like it, and it will feel like that for you as well, but my gut told me to keep fighting through. But what else was there?

Well I was fighting to save my marriage but I stopped fighting as much as I could. I took arguing away as a weapon. I stopped having to prove my point and instead just stopped arguing altogether. I'll tell you it was harder than heck at times but it did wonders for my marriage. It also let me see that I was often the one to start...or at least escalate the fights in my house. Want to know what else I did that helped in stopping the arguing in my marriage?

I needed to stop focusing on all the things that ticked me off that my wife did in order to not start arguments, so I did the opposite and started looking for positive things to focus on. The funny thing is that I really started to find them. Wouldn't noticing the good things about your spouse help you stop fighting so much and possibly help stop unwanted divorce?
