Why Integrate a Quality Management System in Business
Written by Damon Anderson
Businesses need to emphasise ‘quality’ more than anything else, therefore integrating quality in a business management system has become important. A fully-operational and comprehensive quality management approach will help businesses meet customer needs, cope with changing customer demands, improve their products, and consistently manage their internal processes for better efficiency. An integrated quality management system or QMS is another tool an organisation can use to manage their external agents, like suppliers or partners, and ensure that resources provided by them are effectively used in the production.

Needless to say, having a QMS will ensure benefits in the short-term and long-term, leading the business to significant commercial gains. From boosting customer satisfaction to envisioning continual improvement in the processes, a business can ensure benefits with a robust QMS.
The implementation of a QMS is justified by a broad number of reasons, however, in this article we mention a few primary reasons.
Explicit Management of Businesses
With a poor and abrupt management system, a business can experience wasteful processes, lack of resources, substandard product or service quality, and displeased customers. Every business needs to have structured processes and resource management so that the quality of products or services is delivered to customers. An efficient quality management system will lead to explicit awareness for quality maintenance, customer requirements, and employee (and other stakeholders) expectations for the business. Senior management must deploy training programs to help members understand the importance of a formal QMS and how to ensure business success.
Making Improvements at the Core
A great way to enhance the quality of products or services is to organise everything at the core. The business can then seek to meet every need of the customers after altering and improving the core processes, such as design, production, raw material inspection, delivery services, sales orders, and the distribution channel. For some businesses, the core processes go beyond these and include product calibration, maintenance of key performance indicators, and other support processes. All these essential aspects may not be covered and taken care of using a general business management system. Therefore, there’s a need for a standalone QMS.
Helps With ISO Certification
Most importantly, ISO 9001 is the international standard for QMS, and when a business has successfully integrated a compliant QMS, it gets certified with the ISO standard. The international certification guarantees several advantages for the business, such as popularity in the market, an increase in business opportunities, establishment of a strong culture of quality, and consistency in product quality.
Quality Assurance Leads to Certain Gains
The integration of quality in a business management system leads to certain intrinsic gains which the business could not achieve otherwise. With operational efficiency, there’s the delivery of products or services that win customer loyalty. It also leads to certain marketing benefits, improved sales and exports, and increased profitability.
This shows why quality management must be one of the strategic goals of a business in any sector. From identifying the gaps or quality issues in the products or services to improving the processes at the core, a QMS ensures overall improvement in the business, which will lead to market gains.
