Every Life Is Connected To Its Previous Life
The seeds of karma are sown in the past life, and they bear fruits in this life. So, whatever we are experiencing in our life today is nothing but the result of our past life karma. This is the reason why the past life karma has so much of significance.

Suppose there is a big crowd assembled in a ground. And suddenly, a snake comes and bites a person; he yells and falls down unconscious. The question that arises at this point is that of so many people, why did the snake come and bite this particular person only?

It is because of the particular person’s past life karma. This karma got ready to give its fruit at this moment, which was not the case with the others who were present on the ground. Therefore, although the snake passed by so many people, so very closely; yet it did not do them any harm. It came and bit this person only, because this person alone had the present karmic account that he paid off by suffering the bite right now.

Just as the accounts in book-keeping are settled year after year, the accounts of karma are settled life after life. We experience the results of the good and bad karma bound in past life, in this life. When past life’s good karmas come into effect, we feel good and the atmosphere is peaceful. And when the past life’s bad karmas come into effect, we feel uneasy and uncomfortable.

It Is Only In the Human Form That One Binds Karmas
Both good and bad karmas are bound in the human form alone. In no other life form does one bind karmas. In other life forms, they only experience the effects of their karma. Hence, the cows and all other animals we see and even the celestial beings too only experience the karma effects; they do not bind karmas.

In the human form, one experiences the effects of past karmas and also creates new karmas simultaneously. He does both. And that is why it is possible for a person to go to any of the four major life forms. From the human form, one can go into the animal form, or to a celestial form or even to hell, and can even come back into the human form.

One Becomes According To Whatever Karma He Binds
People who cheat, lie and exploit others bind karmas worthy of the animal life. If they cause harm or misery to people, they go to the animal form or a life in hell. If their karmas give happiness to others then they return to the human life or go to the celestial level.

So the life level depends on the type of karma bound. If you have a high karmic debt, which means that you have bound enormous bad karma; you would have to go to the animal kingdom to pay it off. If your karmic debt is still higher, you would have to take birth in hell, and settle it there before you return to the human life.

On the other hand, if you do good karmas in human form, then you become a more elevated human being in the next life and live a life of happiness. When that life is over, you will either return to the same state or go into the celestial form, where you will enjoy the benefits of your further credits of karma. Once the credit is used up, you end up back here in the human form. Similar is the case when you take birth in the animal form. You do not bind any new karma as an animal; you just exhaust the karma of the animal form you had bound when you were a human, for which you may even have to take birth as an animal multiple times, before you can return to the human form.

Thus, we can say that once the level is decided, one has to go through (get born, live and die) that level, experience the effects and then return to the human form, where he again binds new karma.

If Human Being Does Not Bind Any Karma At All, Then He Is Liberated From This Cycle
One can attain liberation only in the human form. There is no other place from which one can attain liberation. But how???

All these animals you see, they all eat, and drink and fight and still they do not bind karmas. Likewise, it is possible for a human being too to not bind any karma. This happens when they do not become the ‘doer’ of the karma. But that’s not easy!

Lord has said that ‘It is extremely difficult to find the path of liberation from this cycle of birth and death; however, if one were to meet a Gnani Purush, the Enlightened One, it becomes the easiest task of all.’

It is because Gnani Purush has the spiritual power to enlighten our Soul with the knowledge of the Self that, “I am a Pure Soul. Human form, animal form, celestial form and life-form in hell are temporary phases. But permanently, I am a Pure Soul only. This is my real identity.’

This right knowledge received from Gnani liberates us from the doership, based on which karma was getting bound. So, thereafter only the experiencing of past life’s karma remains. All sufferings end and permanent happiness that remains with us forever, manifests!

Thus, to conclude:
Human Birth Is Most Invaluable
Birth and rebirth are because of ignorance of the Self. Only when one meets a Gnani Purush and humbly requests him to grace him with the knowledge of the Self, can one break free from this cycle; otherwise one is doomed to wander between the four different life forms to exhaust the bound karma; and the cycle of birth, death and rebirth continues indefinitely.

The transmigration into all the four life forms stems only from the human form and it is also only from the human form that liberation is possible. For this reason, celestial beings too wish for a birth as a human being so that they can meet Gnani Purush and secure their liberation.

Hence, go to Gnani, for He is the One who can release you from all your bondages, and liberate you from the cycle of birth and rebirth forever!!!

Author's Bio:

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
