Why Is The Sun Bad For My Skin?
Written by Ariel Barrington
It is difficult to find anyone that does not enjoy being out in the sun.Unfortunately, that can also cause quite a bit of problems for those who do not protect themselves properly. Those problems can range from premature aging of the skin all the way up to skin cancer, which can be quite serious.Understanding why the sun is so bad for your skin and what you can do in order to protect yourself will go a long way in helping you to enjoy the outdoors without having to be paranoid about it at the same time.
It is the rays of the sun that are actually damaging to your skin, as they are ultraviolet. Specifically, they are ultraviolet A and/or ultraviolet B rays. You have fibers within your skin that is known as elastin and these tend to break down with increased exposure to the sun. When that occurs, you experience the stretching, sagging and wrinkles that are usually associated with aging.Additionally, any damage to your skin may take a longer time to heal. The unfortunate thing is damage to the skin as a result of sun exposure occurs over time so at first, you may enjoy having a bit of a tan but if you continue to get that tan, it will show up later in your life.
There are many different ways that you can protect yourself from the damaging effects of the sun. The most obvious is going to be staying out of the sun when possible but for many of us, that is not really an option. But the right type of clothing can help protect you from the sun as well and you should always make sure that you wear a hat to protect your head, neck, face and ears. Taking this a step further and using a sunscreen or other type of skincare product can also go a long way in helping to protect you from the damaging effects of the sun.How do you choose one of these that will be right for you?
Products that are meant to protect you from the sun are rated by a system that is known as SPF. Those letters stand for sun protection factor and the higher the SPF, the more protection you are going to receive from the sun. It is not only important for you to consider the SPF of the sunscreen that you are using, but you also need to choose something that is going to be of high quality. After all, you would not want to put any damaging chemicals onto your skin and run the risk of harming it in an attempt to protect it. Elta is a company that makes excellent products and NIA24 is always a great choice. When you use products such as those, you're not only protecting your skin from the damage that can occur from the sun, you are helping to add vital elements back to your skin which can really keep it as healthy as possible.
