The city’s history goes back all the way to 1839 when it was discovered by John Neely Bryan while looking to set up a trading post for the settlers and Native Americans. This marked the first steps taken in setting up the city and thereafter there was no looking back. By March 1846, the region was named Dallas County. However, few years later, in 1860, a deadly fire broke out in the center of the city and most of the commercial buildings were gutted. When the railroad came to Dallas in 1873, once more the city became a commercial hub. During the Second World War, this was the city where the manufacturing companies were housed to help with the war effort. And, in the 1950s and 1960s, many technology companies set up their offices there. Today, the city is still known for large companies.
