The products you choose to sell and the methods you use to market them is not as important as the type of unique selling position you use to help set yourself apart from your competitors. A unique selling position is what helps here and you should never forget to think one up for yourself and your products. Having a unique selling position can help you in a few ways; first, it gives you the opportunity to be innovative and to compete with yourself; second, it offers your potential customers a reason to buy from you. Creating your own USP isn't really rocket science; it's a lot easier than most people think--in fact, it is easier than creating a product itself. You simply have to focus on the positive things about your product and then improve upon the not so great things. Help Customers Save Money: Saving your buyers money is one of the easiest ways to set up your USP. This applies to almost every niche, which means it will work for any product. If your USP can convince your clients that your customers will save more money with you than with your competition, it's the one you want to go with. It is important that you strike a balance; don't just create a product that is cheap. Back Up Your Product With a Guarantee - One way to establish your USP is by offering an exceptional guarantee for your product. You want to make it clear to your target audience that you're willing to back up your product with a guarantee. Show your confidence in the product and let them know that they can be rest assured about being satisfied with their purchase. For example, if most of your competitors are offering a 30 day money back guarantee, you can go a step ahead and offer a guarantee for a whole year or even for a lifetime. Your potential customers will see from this that you really stand behind your product, and you'll also be establishing a USP. Do the Opposite: It's common nowadays for businesses to try to please everybody. In order to impress people, they keep making their products larger, with hundreds of features, categories and bonuses. Such products are hard to understand and absorb, which gives you the chance to fill the gap by creating a product that's very specific and targeted. You don't have to solve all the world's problems with your product, only those of your targeted prospects. This is how you conquer various markets by going against big competition, doing exactly the opposite of what they're doing. You can see from the points we've covered in this article how having a USP for your product can make a big difference to your business. Many internet businesses never achieve what they could simply because there's no USP associated with their products. Once you know what your USP is, the rest of the journey becomes easier because most of your marketing efforts will obviously be centered around it.
