Wicker furniture – Light weight, durable and unique

Wicker is documented as far back as ancient Egypt when it was used to craft several articles, especially baskets. Even today wicker is one of the most popular materials for creating innumerable outdoor items.

These are typically referred as Wicker Furniture.

Wicker is a strong material which is durable and unique. Found in many South Asian countries such as Indonesia, these are actually plant stalks or vines as they are commonly known.

These vines are extremely flexible, which makes them a great raw material to craft garden and outdoor furniture.

Sofas, tables, chairs, chaise lounges, bistro sets, plant holders and bar sets are some of the articles that are created with wicker. Furniture made from wicker is incredibly light in weight.

Patio area remains idle most of the times; it does not encounter harsh usage. It is typically utilized by grown ups for reading paper, enjoying drinks with friends and other social activities. In such a scenario wicker furniture fits the bill perfectly. There is little chance of the fibres getting torn or ripped, which happens when wicker articles are placed in garden area.

Wicker patio furniture is less susceptible to wear and tear, especially the weave which tend to deform, crack or tear. Wicker is therefore treated with suitable chemicals or lacquer to withstand harsh weather conditions and rough human handling.

Patio Furniture is also made up of wood, wrought iron, plastic and artificial or synthetic wicker. Today, designers use metals and other materials in conjunction with wicker; to provide better stability, beauty and resistance to rain and sun.

Garden Sun Loungers are versatile pieces of outdoor furniture. Come summer, everyone feels like moving out into the open, read a book or sip a drink under the shade of colourful umbrella or simply get back that lost tan. Some of the most comfortable sun loungers are made from wicker. These are typically available in basket design with solid coloured mattress and cushions. Wood and metal sun loungers are the next preferred choice.

Plastic is the least preferred material because it is not strong and tends to fade quickly.

Sun loungers are designed to offer several reclining positions; generally five options are provided. There are others that fold back completely and these are good for sun bathing.
