We have all heard the saying, “Work smarter, not harder”, but how many times do you feel like you are just spinning your wheels and not really going anywhere? Do you feel like you have tried everything and nothing has worked the way you expected it to? Or do you feel that you are working so hard on your business trying to make it work that you have no time for fun anymore?

I can relate to all of these questions. Being an entrepreneur can be hard. We have to excel at so many things in order to be successful. It is essential to master our business operations, marketing, client relations and our self in order to build a foundation of lasting success. We often find ourselves working crazy hours doing things we dislike but feel are necessary. We know that stress plays a huge role in dis-ease yet we ourselves are stressed out to the hilt.

We worry about everything. Will I have enough clients to make ends meet? Will I be able to help my clients solve their problems? Will I have to work this hard the rest of my life?

For the last several years, I have been determined to figure out a way to work smarter and not harder. I was exhausted from working three jobs, 16-hour days, 7 days per week. I knew there had to be a better way and there was. Let me tell you about the three things you must do to work smarter so you can live the life you want.

The most important thing is to do work that you are passionate about, that you absolutely love. If you do not enjoy what you are doing than it will come through in every aspect of your work. It will affect the number of clients you have, how hard you feel you have to work and how much money you bring in.

Next, narrow your marketing efforts. If you try marketing to the entire world, you will be strung out and poor. You are small business person not a major conglomerate. This is the number one mistake that we find wellness professionals making. If you are having difficulties narrowing down your niche, check out Gail Sophia Edgell’s article Attract Clients, Increase Profits.

The final step is to hire a coach. This also is necessary to working smarter and not harder. All athletes who excel at their sport have a coach. They know that the coach is essential to their success because a coach sees things that they do not see and can help them make adjustments that will perfect their game. This is true in business as well. A coach or mentor helps you work smarter and not harder. They are able to look at your business objectively and to help you avoid making major mistakes with your time and money. You invest in your business in many ways, investing in a coach is something that will pay off with huge dividends.
