World Of Woolcraft
Written by Karl Buckley
With Autumn drawing in, many people are stocking up on wool, not least the avid knitters that are working hard for charity as part of The Big Knit 2011.
Innocent Smoothies have teamed up with Sainsbury’s supermarkets to get the country knitting in aid of Age UK.
"The Big Knit started back in 2003 when we knitted 20,000 hats to raise £10,000 for Age Concern. Since then The Big Knit has grown every single year – and 2011 will be the year we smash the £1 million mark of total money raised over the campaign’s history as we aim to put 650,000 hats on our bottles.
Since we started the Big Knit, we’ve worked with Age Conce
and Help the Aged (who have now merged to Age UK) to help keep thousands of older people across the UK warm and healthy during the chilly winter months."
All over the country, knitting enthusiasts will be donating a little wool and a little time to create tiny bobble hats for bottles of Innocent Smoothies. Whether you’re a beginner knitter or a seasoned pro, Innocent want you to join in with The Big Knit to help raise £162,500. The money will assist 350,000 older people all over the UK this winter. There’s no better time to try out a new wool or set yourself a mini challenge for September.
Innocent have published Big Knit Patterns on their website. They’re suitable for any level of ability, and there are even guides on how to knit if your skills are a little rusty. Grab a pattern today, then call in to World of Woolcraft for everything you need to get started, or order your knitting supplies online. We sell the new wool from King Cole, Wicked, which comes in a range of zingy rainbow colours for a snuggly smoothie hat that’ll really turn heads. We also have new varieties of Katia wool and still stock the great Rico Design wool if you want to give your miniature hat a little touch of class.
Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, just pop it in the post to Innocent before Friday 14th October. They’ll make sure it’s used on a smoothie bottle in late November or early December. You might even see your creation in a Sainsbury’s near you.
