Worried About What They’ll Say If You Step Into Your Brilliance, Shine Your Light and Act Totally Authentic?

You’re certainly not the only one.
There was a time I worried about that too.
After all, I had been living my life one way and when I decided to live my life in an authentic way I rocked the boat a little. It couldn’t be helped.
Over the years many of my clients have expressed this same worry. What will people think once they see the REAL me?
First, I want you to remember this quote from Dr. Seuss: ”Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
From the day I gave my notice at my corporate job (almost 10 years ago) to just recently, every once in awhile someone I know jabs me for being who I am and doing what I love.
Sometimes it hurts.
After all, when you’re courageous enough to be who you really are and you show yourself to others and they jab you for it it’s going to sting.
Other times I’ve walked away angry but most of the time I realize it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. By jabbing me they’re really just showing their true colors and it’s not very pretty.
When you step into your brilliance and dare shine your light you will rock the boat. But instead of viewing this as a negative why not view it as a positive?
Here’s why: when you have the courage to go for it you give oodles of others the courage to go for it too.
The ripple effect you create is astounding.
You see, it only takes ONE brave person to start a movement. Just one. You never know the impact your living authentically will have on others.
It and you could be someone’s miracle.
To borrow Oprah’s line, here’s what I know for sure: living your life authentically will do more to help people than pretending to be someone you’re not.
Living your life authentically will give your children permission to do the same.
Living your life by saying YES to your passions and purpose will open doors you only dreamed about.
So, the next time someone jabs you for being who you are and doing what you love…or the next time someone just doesn’t get it, remember there are LOTS of us out here that do get it and we applaud you.
We know what it takes.
