Xin Huxi Qigong has as its central concept that of "Center Breathing." Center Breathing is breathing in a fashion such that the Dan Tian - Elixir Field - is balanced, abundant and flowing with Qi. As with any system of exercise whether it be Qigong, Tai Chi or Kung Fu it is always recommended that you warm-up prior to the major portion of the training or practice. In Xin Huxi Qigong the first and easiest forms to learn are the stationary warm-up exercises.

The most important point to remember is that these are warm-up exercises. Their purpose is to begin to loosen you up, increase circulation, and provide you with an opportunity to focus your mind on the movement of your body and on your breathing. The warm-up exercises should help you to begin the relaxation process and get you into the spirit of the thing.

These warm-up exercises for the most part keep the feet in the same position. This position is where the feet are parallel and shoulder-width apart. It is important to breathe using chang bao qi breathing during the warm-up exercises.

These three basic stationary forms all start with the same stance or way of standing. It is called the "Feet Parallel Stance." To perform this stance stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Your feet should be flat on the floor and your toes should be turned in slightly. Your shoulder should be shoulders relaxed and your arms hang loosely at your sides. Your hands are relaxed and just touch the sides of the legs.

Warm-up Exercise #1 - Circle Arms Forward and Backward

Begin in feet parallel stance as describes above. Touch your tongue to the back of your upper teeth at the gum line as you breathe in through the nose and circle your arms, in large circles in the forward direction, four complete rotations during the entire inhalation. Touch your tongue to the back of your lower teeth at the gum line as you breathe out through the mouth and you circle your arms, in large circles toward the back, four complete rotations during the entire exhalation. You have now completed one set. Repeat for an additional three sets.

During this exercise you can add mind power and create a conscious mind connection by visualizing that you arms are like a wind mill and you are creating large circular currents of energy that flow to you and throughout the universe. With this you can engage your subconscious mind by affirming, "I feel and attract the circular waves of energy that now flow through me and energize my body, mind and spirit."

Warm-up Exercise #2 - Twist Left and Right

Begin in feet parallel stance as described above. Touch your tongue to the back of your upper teeth at the gum line as you breathe in through the nose and you twist your trunk at the waist left and right with your feet flat on the floor turning twice to each side during the entire inhalation. Touch your tongue to the back of your lower teeth at the gum line as you breathe out through the mouth and you twist your trunk at the waist left and right doing a full rotation allowing heels to come up off the floor turning twice to each side during the entire exhalation. During this exercise your arms cross in front of and circle behind the body. You have now completed one set. Repeat for an additional three sets.

During this exercise you can add mind power and create a conscious mind connection by visualizing that you arms are like a propeller in the water and you are creating large oscillating currents of energy that flow to you and throughout the universe. With this you can engage your subconscious mind by affirming, "I feel and attract the oscillating currents of energy that now flow through me and energize my body, mind and spirit."

Warm-up Exercise #3 - Full Body Rotation

Begin in feet parallel stance as described above. Touch your tongue to the back of your upper teeth at the gum line as you breathe in through the nose and as you raise your hands above your head with your fingers pointing toward the ceiling. Touch your tongue to your lower teeth at the gum line Breathe out through the mouth as you bend forward and reach toward the floor.

With your tongue touching the back of your upper teeth breathe in through the nose and circle your upper body to the right and up toward the ceiling. At the top look slightly backward. With your tongue touching the back of your lower teeth breathe out through your mouth and circle your upper body to the left and down to the floor. Repeat this exercise in the opposite direction. This completes one set. Repeat for an additional three sets.

Remember that these are warm-up exercises and as such can be used to warm-up before any qigong practice or fitness workout. They energize the body, mind and spirit and focus your intention on developing a balanced, abundant and smoothly flowing Qi.
