A man-made island is an island that has been built by individuals rather than the forming due to changes in natural and geographical conditions. Early artificial islands included structures in still waters or wooden or megalithic structures raised in shallow waters. Usually, artificial islands are the places where people go for recreation and it contains hotels and resorts. The development of Yas Island was a great initiative that started in 2006 by Abu Dhabi-based Aldar Properties, with the point of transforming the island into a multi-purpose recreation, shopping, and amusement hub at an expected of an average cost of over $40 billion. This speculation was arranged as a multi-staged project to expand in multiple phases till 2018, with the stakeholders predicting the extension of the development period to improve by including new venues and upgrading it on the whole. Both business and leisure travelers visit Yas Island. Yas Island was named the world's leading tourism project at the World Travel Awards in November 2009. It is based on the total land area of 25 square km, of which 1,700 ha was claimed for development.
