Yaz linked to Hyperkalemia

One of the most popular contraceptive drug, Yaz has been linked to many life threatening side effects including pulmonary embolism, deep vain thrombosis and gall bladder diseases. baby, if it is taken by a pregnant woman. Hence it is advisable to not use Yaz in pregnancy. Recently new studies linked this medicine with Hyprkalemia too. Hyperkalemia refers to high level of potassium in the blood. Yaz contains drospirenone, a synthetic hormone equivalent to hormone progestin. This hormone hinders the normal salt balance in the body. It interferes with the normal mechanism of the body. This interference could lead to higher level of potassium in the blood. This condition is known as Hyperkalemia. Many lawsuits have been filed against Bayer pharmaceuticals alleging that use of Yaz has resulted into Hyperkalemia and related problems in the patients. FDA has issued many warnings regarding side effects of Yaz and Yasmin. It has also warned Bayer about misleading information being provided to the patients about this medicine by the pharmaceutical company. FDA has planned a meeting with its advisory committees to discuss on fatal side effects of Yaz and other medicine in its line. If it decides to ban the drug or comes up with some hard line decision regarding side effects of these drugs, it will be a fatal blow for Bayer Healthcare. A decision against these medicines is surely going to be benefiting for several Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits.
