Yeast Infection Treatment Facts
Written by Jen Carter
Yeast infection or Candidiasis is a disease that is typically found in women. In fact, yeast infection will happen to most women at least once in their lifetime – and so the disease is actually quite common. While some women need yeast infection treatment once or twice, there are those in whom the problems keeps coming back again and again. And so, they are perennially in search of an effective yeast infection treatment. But interestingly, yeast is something that is present in the human body in a natural state and so is not harmful. It is only when there is an overproduction or the balance gets disturbed, that it begins to create a trouble. And these are the times when yeast infection treatment becomes necessary.
In a natural state yeast can be found in the mouth, the digestive system, the rectum and in the vagina. When there is a yeast infection (it usually happens in the vaginal tract), the main symptoms include a feeling of burning and itching as well. There is also a white discharge. An infection of yeast can even be passed on to the male partner while having sex and the male gets the symptoms under the foreskin. Thus at times, even though the disease happens primarily to females, but the males may as well need yeast infection treatment. But this is rare.
There are basically 2 main types of yeast infection treatment options. Treatments that are administered topically or in the vagina (a cream that dissolves quickly after it has been inserted), and treatments that are administered orally (pills). However topical applications are more common than oral medications. Most of the medicines that are available include antifungal solutions that aim to control the infection. Though in many cases the symptoms tend to go away after administering the medicines only for a few days, but it is not a good idea to stop the yeast infection treatment mid way. The entire course needs to be completed (even though the symptoms are no more present), and this may go on for 14 days or so. Cure the disease completely or else it may make a come back.
There are some yeast infection treatments that are good for pregnant women and those who are breast feeding as well. And also for girls who are not even 12 years of age.
Though yeast infection is a common thing among females, but treatment is still a necessity. That is because in some cases it can lead to other serious health hazards such as RVCC or vulvovaginal candidiasis. And when this happens, the yeast infection keeps coming back even in the same year.
There are many natural ingredients that have antifungal properties. There are some medicines that have leveraged these properties and scientifically developed some very fine yeast infection treatments that deliver quick results and are completely safe as well.
