It is said that you are what you eat. Well, more doughnuts mean a round belly! More veggies and fish mean more lean body! You decide what you eat; you decide your physical and emotional well being thereon. Keeping this in mind, Hippocrates once said “your food shall be your medicine and your medicine shall be your food”. Food is powerful. It can help you build a great physical and emotional body and wrong food can do the exact opposite. It can cure and help you overcome ailments and at the same time it can risk your health. It totally depends on what you eat and how you eat! Your health is in your hands.
Well, modern convenience has replaced what we originally used to eat. So here are the main food groups that all of us should definitely include in our diet:
• Vitamin A - One of the main food groups! Sweet potatoes, carrots, squash; spinach, collards, apricot and mango are very rich in vitamin A and hence need to be included in some quantity in our daily diet. Vitamin A is very essential because it heals wounds, acts as a natural antibiotic and is imperative for healthy skin.
• Vitamin C – Oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, strawberries, broccoli, kale, cauliflower and tomatoes are major sources of vitamin C. vitamin C helps produce collagen and prevents infection. Very essential for strong bone structure especially for women.
• Zinc – Asparagus, red meat, pumpkin and sesame seeds, shrimp and broccoli are the main sources of zinc. Your body needs zinc so that your cells can properly read, recognize and carry out genetic instructions. Supports immune system too.
• Protein – Include meat, poultry, fish and eggs in your diet in required quantities and you are set for proteins. Protein is the basic building block for all your cells and tissues.
These are the healing food groups that are usually neglected from our daily diet. Learn to choose between foods. For e.g. – choose real ice cream over popsicles or eat an actual fruit over canned fruit jam! The real extracts and goodies in vegetables and fruits are unmatched. Our bodies need all types of nutrients to do its work properly. Treat your body like a place of worship! Respect it and it will respect you back.
