In 2011 I unwittingly joined the ranks of a not so elite group of people who suffer from depression, an incredibly misunderstood condition. Coming from someone diagnosed with the formerly “pretend” disorder of fibromyalgia, that says a lot.
So much of this world is negative, bad and wrong. However, if we choose to stress about this fact, we waste precious moments to experience happiness, joy and blessings. We take a step toward greatness when we focus and share positivity instead of negativity, both in our lives and every place we dedicate our time.
Sometimes we must realize that certain people aren’t worth our time or effort. They may be egomaniacal or malicious in their willful choice to negatively impact others, but if we decide to address or deal with them in any kind of rational way it can eventually become nothing more than an exercise in futility.
Don’t hunt me down and shoot me, but I see 9/11 as a blessing in disguise. It helped us to remember our capacity for great things as humans. The loss, fear and anger we felt that day gave rise to something greater – compassion and community.r
The rat race trains you to follow a specific path to be successful in life. However, the reward comes at the expense of your hopes and dreams. Once you realize that you are in control of your own success, your dreams will beat the rat race. Most of you have heard of the rats in the maze experiments. Researchers believed rats would learn to follow a specific path if it was reinforced by the reward of food at the end. A psychologist named Edward Chace Tolman believed this idea of behavioral learning was wrong and set out to prove his theory.
Below is one of the graduate level papers I wrote in 2000 to address the pervasive topic of job stress – something most of us cannot escape. It’s rather long and academic in tone, but the information still applies today and is worth a read. I will note that the references will not address changes in law or recommendations made post-2000.
We can’t escape every difficult person in our lives. They create unnecessary stress for us to find some release for their own inner demons. By using a few simple steps, we can learn to keep our composure whenever we have to deal with them.

I wish all of you a Happy Easter. Jesus was a gift to all who walk the face of the earth because God knew we would be unable to save ourselves from doing wrong. As humans it is inevitable that we would err in some way and we have in many – gluttony, greed, lust, envy, wrath, sloth and pride. At some point in our lives we have all committed at least one of these wrongs. All the injustice in this world is as a result of the negative things we have done to this planet, to others and to ourselves. Justice would dictate that we would have to face the consequences for these wrongs.
Sometimes barriers block your path to success, but many of these obstacles are easily overcome. Your most significant barrier might be you. If your fears take over, you could stand in your own way. Follow these steps to remove those hurdles. A few years back I went to a goal setting seminar offered by my friend Daniel Gutierrez. He recommended that you develop annual goals plan at least three months before the year begins. If you wait until New Year’s Eve to make your resolutions, you already start behind schedule. Keep this in mind when you decide to use the tools below.
We can often let worry, stress and other negative thoughts consume us. If we don’t stop those thoughts, they can cause accidents in our lives. Here are a few steps to help drive you in the right direction so you don’t go down that road again. Inspect – It is important before you drive to inspect your car for damage and non-working parts. When you inspect your thought life, it helps you identify what creates your negative thoughts and increase your awareness of them so you can recognize them for the damaged parts they are and replace them before you take your jou eys in life.
