Devon Harris is no stranger to adversity. He was born in poverty and raised in a violent ghetto environment. While most of his peers dropped out of school at an early age, Devon persevered, excelled in sports, and graduated with honors. With much persistence, Devon received an appointment to the Officer Corp of the Jamaica Defence Force and was selected to attend the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in England.
At the suggestion of his commanding officer, Devon tried out for and was selected to join Jamaica’s first Olympic Bobsled Team. Since then he has participated in three Winter Olympic Games, including the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada upon which Disney based the popular movie, Cool Runnings.
A motivational Keynote Speaker and Workshop Facilitator since 1998, Devon has brought his message and perseverance to a wide cross section of audience. His personal philosophy like that of the Jamaican Bobsled team, is that he will not permit others to define the limits of his success. He is also an athlete ambassador for Right To Play, an athlete-driven humanitarian non-profit organization using sport and play to enhance child development and build community capacity in refugee camps around the world. Devon is also the author of the motivational children’s book Yes, I Can!
