Much of our distress in life is due to a lack of genuine connection with ourselves and with others. When you increase your understanding and acceptance of yourself and how you relate to others, you are better able to achieve a sense of well-being and move through difficulties. Various life experiences from childhood through the present, can compromise your ability to be yourself or can lead you to repeat behaviors that no longer serve you well in your personal life or at work.
Often the root cause of anxiety, depression or self-esteem issues is memories of upsetting experiences that are stuck in your brain in a way that the emotions, thoughts abut yourself and other sensations that you experienced at the time of the upsetting experience get activated in similar present day situations. EMDR is a highly effective and efficient psychotherapy approach for identifiying and resolving past experiences that contribute to present day problems.
I have helped many people move through, heal and recover from heartbreak, job loss, betrayal, grief, loss of important relationships, criticism, rejection, career dissatisfaction, childhood abuse(emotional, physical, sexual), recent abuse, traumatic events, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), recurring bad dreams, narcissistic parents, anxiety, depression, self-doubt, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, fear of public speaking or anxiety in high performance situations.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified EMDR Psychotherapist and a Workshop Instructor, I am uniquely qualified in helping people understand and recover from upsetting life experiences that have a negative impact on how they feel about themselves, how they relate to to others and how they behave.
I view my clients as mentally healthy individuals having understandable reactions to upsetting, disappointing or difficult aspects of life. I take an active, friendly, conversational approach with clients. Clients comment on how easy it is to talk with me and how my style and approach to therapy makes our sessions more productive and comfortable for them.
As a Certified EMDR Therapist, I have extensive training and experience in trauma and grief work. EMDR is a whole brain approach to therapy that facilitates the brain's natural process for reprocessing and resolving memories of upsetting events that affect our behaviors and how we feel about ourselves.
I love working as a therapist and am grateful for the privilege of hearing clients' stories and witnessing people grow, heal and find more joy in life.
