Dr. Paul Burghardt earned
a MS in exercise physiology and a PhD in biomedical science and has a
decade of research experience investigating how physical activity
alters behavior and neurobiology. He currently holds positions in the
Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience Institute and the department of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, both at the University of
Michigan.
Dr.
Burghardt is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the
International Behavioral Neuroscience Society, the American Congress of
Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity
Center. He has authored
several scientific publications on the behavioral, neurochemical, and
physiological responses related to exercise and the behavioral
responses to pharmacological compounds.
Dr.
Burghardt has experience in clinical exercise research settings with
projects that investigated the effect of nutritional supplements on
physical and mental performance in athletes, and clinical
rehabilitation experience in hospital-based phase-II cardiac
rehabilitation programs. He has also coached junior judo competitors
at national tournaments, helped individuals as a personal trainer, and
taught collegiate physiology and statistics courses.
