Fear is the biggest enemy to spiritual growth. Fear can lead to depression, resentment, hatred, and jealousy just to name a few of its offspring. We fear both the unknown and what we dreadfully anticipate. Have you ever tried to do something and no matter how hard you tried, it seemed like it was not meant for it to happen? We start to doubt our own abilities, other people, fate, and then fear creeps in. The moment one loses hope, fear is born. We try to control our environment, children, partners, finances, habits and whatever else we attribute importance to. We fear that losing these will be catastrophic. Some people are taught to fear God. Why do we need so much fear in our lives? The truth is - we do not. On the outside though, it appears that fear is the driving force that keeps us going to church, work, family reunions and so on. If for a moment we remove fear out of our lives, we will open a space to invite in serenity.
