Meet Ruth King...
When Do You Turn To Ruth?
Ruth's Mission:
To increase the success rate of small businesses. Four out of five businesses don't make it to their fifth birthday. Ruth thinks this is deplorable and is working towards doubling or tripling the success rate of companies who celebrate their fifth birthday.
In keeping with this mission, Ruth King has helped thousands of business owners and managers. She does it through personal contact, speeches and training classes, books and ezines, and Profitability Channel on Ribbon, the Internet Broadcasting Network. If Ruth can’t help you she probably can refer you to someone who can.
“I really believe that your popularity stems from your ability to explain tough subjects in a easy-to-understand manner. You provide substance, but without the expanded technicalities of some of your counterparts. You are clean, to the point, providing information at a level correct for the student. That's a huge asset that you possess.” This comment from one of Ruth’s many customers exemplifies how Ruth interacts with her customers…whether in person, on the telephone, or on the Internet.
Ruth is definitely approachable. You can always reach her (if it is after 10 PM…give her five minutes to wake up before asking any hard questions).
Professional Beginnings:
Ruth is a seasoned entrepreneur. Over the past 25 years she has owned 7 businesses. Her first business, Business Ventures Corporation, began operations in 1981. Through Business Ventures Corporation she travels throughout the United States coaching, training, and helping small businesses achieve the business goals they want to achieve.
She is especially proud of one company owner she helped climb out of a big hole. He started with a negative $400,000 net worth 15 years ago and is still in business today…profitably and with a positive net worth.
After twelve years on the road, doing 200 flights per year, she knew there had to be a better way to reach business people who wanted to build their businesses and train their employees. As a result HVACChannel began broadcasting in March, 2002. iBusinessChannel, now ProfitabilityChannel, began broadcasting in January, 2005. Other channels such as www.TurnOnMyFinancialLightBulb.com quickly followed. Ribbon, the first Internet Broadcasting Network, was born.
Ruth holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University and University of Pennsylvania, respectively. (She loved school and summer engineering jobs…hated the real engineering world). So, she followed her entrepreneurial roots and went back to school. She holds an MBA in finance from Georgia State University and started a branch of the Small Business Development Centers in Decatur, Georgia.
Passions (other than business):
Ruth is passionate about helping adults learn to read, photography, and marathon races. She helped start an adult literacy organization in 1986 that currently serves over 1,000 adults per year and ran the Boston Marathon in April, 2004 and April, 2005.
Books and other Publications:
Ruth was the 2006 USA Best Books Winner for Entrepreneurship and a finalist for the Independent Publisher Awards (IPPY) for her first book, The Ugly Truth About Small Business (Sourcebooks). Her second book, The Ugly Truth about Managing People, was published by Sourcebooks in 2007. She is currently working on the third book in The Ugly Truth about (TM) series.
Ruth has written many manuals including the popular Keeping Score Series: “Financial Management for Entrepreneurs”, “Improving Profitability and Productivity”, and “21 Way to Keep Your Honest Employees Honest”.
She is also an editorial contributor for HVACRBusiness, Reeves Journal, Southern PHC, SNIPS, and many regional publications.
Speaking and Media:
Ruth has spoken for national and state association meetings, national and local trade shows, manufacturers, distributors, and others in 49 of 50 states. (She is looking for a reason to go to North Dakota). Ruth is a down to earth, thought provoking speaker who will provide audiences with ideas that will inspire them and help them earn more profits.
Her television, Internet, and radio appearances include hosting “Biz Buzz” (weekly live program on ProfitabilityChannel.com), Wall Street Journal Radio Network, BusinessWeek.com, The Small Business Advocate, First Business, Small Business Radio Network, and The Atlanta Journal. She is available for Radio and TV interviews, in store book signings, discussions, lectures and seminars. She is available world wide depending on her schedule.
