I want to share a poem I thought of during my last coaching session. (Yes, I have my own coaches.) At the end of the session, we kind of switched roles and I began coaching my coach. When I mentally switched gears from the client to the coach, I instantly relaxed. It was so much easier to focus on someone else rather than myself. I think it’s because the client role makes me vulnerable. It’s hard to hold up the mirror and reflex on who I am and where I’m going.

What is eating about? Beautiful tastes and textures, wonderful aromas, a pleasing plate of food? Something to fill you up when you are hungry? A great gift that you can share with others, while you also enjoy their company? A list of calories, fat grams or carbohydrate grams? A stack of guilty pleasures or healthy (less enjoyable) alte atives? Food shouldn’t be any one thing to us. We use food to give calories and nutrients to our bodies, for sure, but it is also a source of pleasure for the sheer joy of eating.

Many people go through their lives constantly coming up with reasons on why they cannot do something. Why they should not do something. Is this how you are living your life? Do you spend more time making excuses rather than living in action? Making excuses will not get you to where you need to go. This is living a life of restriction. When you are in restriction you will not see possibilities; you will only see reasons on why something can’t be done. What you focus on you attract. Successful people do not make excuses.

I have a client who is going to implement a blog to his website and he has informed me that he has a Harvard graduate to write for the blog. My response was, "Great! Does she know how to write web content?" I have a high respect for great writers, and I hold an English minor myself, but it took me a long time to get used to the concept of web writing and retrain my brain to use shorter sentences and vocabulary at the 8th – 12th grade level.

When I was in my thirties and suffering from a low grade anxiety disorder, I let the feeling of urgency steal my life. Because I was always anxious, I did not know what it felt like NOT to be anxious. I thought how I felt was normal, even though I also felt enormous shame for being so afraid all the time. One day I just got sick of being afraid. I decided I would practice being a little braver every day and I would never trust urgency again. This day my life changed forever. I am legally blind.
