Is it Safe to Get Rid of Lower Back Pain with EFT?

The literature is full of the causes of lower back pain. Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons why employees take a day off sick. It also can be very debilitating. Anybody who has spent a sleepless night tossing and turning with this pain can sympathise.

Of course, we have to make sure that the causes of the pain are addressed. And once that has happened, still you may well have lower back pain. It may be hard to bend over, sitting may be painful, driving may be a challenge, and a sudden turn may bring shooting pains through your body.

In terms of energy healing, a chronic or recurring pain is due to an energy disruption. If your energy, or chi, is misaligned, it will manifest in the weakest part of your body. And once your lower back becomes weakened, through an accident or by normal wear and tear, this area becomes a weak part of your body. So if you have a structural weakness of any kind in your lower back, then you can get lower back pain when your energy is disrupted.

One of the most common causes of energy disruption is negative emotion. EFT, otherwise known as Emotional Freedom Techniques, or Tapping, is a very effective way of releasing this kind of energy disruption. It involves tapping with two fingers on certain acupressure points whilst repeating a relevant phrase. This releases the energy disruption and relaxes those previously-tense lower back muscles. And as well as releasing the lower back pain, you may also find yourself feeling calmer and more balanced.

All this is great, but you may well ask about the wisdom of losing pain. For example, what if the pain is due to a cancer that needs urgent attention? Is it safe to lose the lower back pain by tapping? Well, one great bonus of using EFT for pain is its safety. Let me illustrate with an example.

I was treating clients in a workshop for their back pain. One in particular did not respond to the tapping at all. Her pain was still something like an 8 out of 10. So I sat next to her and asked her more questions about her pain. From her answers, I gathered that her pain was most probably musculo-skeletal and needed urgent manipulation to prevent further injury. Still trying to be helpful, I gave her the number of a top osteopath that I knew would take good care of her and made her promise to make an appointment with him the next day. And then I thought to tap anyway, to conclude our work. We tapped whilst saying something like:
“Even though I have this pain, I promise to make the appointment with the osteopath tomorrow. I deeply love and accept myself”.

To my astonishment, this lady's pain started to fade away! So we continued tapping like that, and in minutes the pain went down to a more manageable 3 out of 10. It would not go down further. This implied to me that necessary pain does not begin to fade with EFT unless we make a plan to address its causes.
And I have come across numerous occasions since where a pain that was needed did not go away with EFT. So EFT is not a method of superficial pain relief or pain management but a holistic pain solution.
