You have had a successful year financially but are you motivated? Most would think that the answer should be a resounding yes. But what if you answered no or not really? Is your motivation, attitude or self concept affected by your latest sale? If this is the case, you are not alone. It may be wise to examine whether you are happily achieving your goals or are you going after achievements in order to feel happy and thereby trapped on the emotional roller coaster?

You are about to discover 3 simple and effective strategies that build on each other to help you reengage your motivation when you find yourself drifting.

1. Develop the habit of choosing the healthiest perspective.

Let's face it…you may not always be able to control the circumstances you find yourself in. Professional sales can be an emotional roller coaster. However, no matter who you are, you always have the power to choose the most healthy perspective from which to operate .

We have all heard you can view the glass either half full or half empty. But, what about just being thankful for having the glass? This is just one more perspective. There is never a shortage on perspectives. The only a shortage is in our thinking there's a shortage. Most people form an opinion too quickly about a situation. It's said that we form opinions at the point which we stop thinking. Next time you find yourself feeling "stuck" in a given situation simply become aware that you are not stuck. You are just viewing the circumstance from a "stuck" perspective. Starting now ask yourself what is one more perspective on this situation. All you need to do is then choose to change your perspective to the healthiest.

2. Applying the process for affecting change.

The process for affecting change is aligning the three elements of Awareness, Action & Accountability.

The first of those elements is awareness. Awareness is simply noticing how you are being with a given situation. Motivation is an inside job so we are going to focus on changing from the inside. As an example, let's say your awareness is that you are feeling inundated and not motivated. Just notice that's what you're experiencing in the given moment as it relates to the current circumstances. Most people stop there and expand their experience of inundation by reviewing it over and over in their mind.

The second element needed for change is ACTION. This can be as easy as asking yourself an empowering question that will shift your focus from what you are not wanting to what you are wanting. So if you are experiencing inundation you may be wanting more efficiency or better time management skills. So, the questions to ask your self might look like - what systems would I have in place if I was feeling in control of my current work load? Or, what skill set or resource would I have in place if I were efficient at handling all these data points? Or, what would Joe, who is really good at processing all of this and staying productive, do in this situation? It's important to realize that your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.

In the quantum field, our mind works like a Google search engine. If we type in the request of I am feeling inundated in the search, we get back all kinds of information of how to feel inundated, overwhelmed and unmotivated. But if we type in what we are wanting such as becoming more efficient or systems to help process our workload then we get the answer to those searches. Once we take action we then just need to leverage the third element which is Accountability.

The third element, is Accountability which is the key to driving the change. It can be summed up simply as forwarding your action and deepening your learning regarding the situation by committing to a follow up action. Ask yourself, what am I willing to do next after the initial action based on my new awareness? So, continuing with our example, let's assume you come up with the ideas of reading a book, taking a course on business efficiency or hiring an efficiency expert to streamline your business you would then select one of those and build in some leverage to make sure you do it by committing to yourself and someone else such as a partner, friend or manager that can help keep your commitment top of mind.

3. Refocus your Focus

The only real reason one loses motivation is because they have lost focus of their definite major purpose and perhaps lost site of their vision. When this occurs, our mission can seem empty at the first sign of defeat and our objectives and strategies lose their force. It's as if we've been unplugged and hear the engines whining down to a defining silence.

This leads us back to the first element of our second strategy…Awareness! When you are feeling unmotivated you are just being made aware that you have either lost sight of your vision or you don't have one. Developing a vision is a whole different article. Reconnecting and focusing back on your vision will be our focus here.

This is as simple as carrying your definite major purpose and vision with you and remembering to connect to them when you find the wind has been sucked out of your sails.

Your life's experience is determined by what you focus on. What ever you focus on expands. If you are focusing on the lack of prospects, guess what you start to experience more of? That's right, a lot of evidence to support there being not enough prospects. When in fact there are plenty of prospects available. To make yourself more available to the prospects refocus on your purpose and vision.

The easiest way to illustrate this is by looking at the following 7 letters: N O W H E R E.

What do you see? You initially either saw the phrase "no where" or you saw "now here" based on which side of the W you focused. The same seven letters contains two entirely different meanings. Your power is in the present moment of being now here and dealing with what's at hand in a resourceful way coming from your purpose and vision. Whereas, you surrender all of your power by focusing on the no where by regretting your past behavior and actions or worrying about the future. Worry is just prayer for what you don't want. So, the next time you hallucinate things aren’t going as you wish, observe where your focus is and simply shift your focus to what you want around your purpose and vision. This is learning to be more present. This in and of itself is motivation.
