Many contemporary researchers believe that real intelligence is expressed in the way we handle life's situations. Some of us are better at this than others: managing stress, shifting gears quickly, executing plans effectively. For most of us, change is challenging - especially when we have not asked for it. Here are some quick tips to consider when navigating the challenges of change.

1. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. Doesn't this old adage sound practical? If you take into account the most problematic aspects of your situation, you will be well prepared. If they don't occur, then you will have energy and optimism to spare.

2. Always be open to reassessing your plan. If we are so committed to doing things according to plan, we won't see the easier, more effective solutions that reveal themselves in the process of change.

3. Ask for support from others. This is a biggy. Especially for us perfectionists, and control-freaks. The important thing here is to ask for help from the person MOST able to provide the help you seek. You wouldn't go to a dentist for a pedicure, right? So don't go to a friend for help in an area where they are not experienced.

These 3 strategies help you refocus your energy when change and challenge is thrust upon you. Or when you find yourself overwhelmed with the things that you believe MUST get done, and you lack the resources to do it. Change is a part of life. Learning to navigate it more effectively contributes to life's overall happiness.
