Written by tedd woods
Botox. For many people, the name evokes images of unlikely celebrities desperate to smooth skin a more youthful skin. He became the cosmetic treatment of choice for many rich and famous. But the effect of Botox are not purely cosmetic. It is becoming increasingly popular in medical circles. Botox is the answer to the question much more serious than a few wrinkles.
One of the most important uses of Botox is the treatment of excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. In this process, Botox is injected into the local network (such as the armpit), where it reacts with the nervous system to effectively "turn off" the sweat glands of the body. Those who suffer from excessive sweating, this sounds like a wonder drug. But if you're considering Botox injections because the answer to the problems of excessive sweating are probably only two things you want to know: Does it work? And is it safe?
Well, first, the results of Botox treatments for hyperhidrosis appear to be good news. In a clinical study of 322 patients with severe underarm sweating, 81% of patients receiving botulinum toxin injections achieved a reduction greater than 50% perspiration. And 50% of patients had their excessive sweating relieved for at least 201 days - nearly seven months aording SweatHelp.org.
Regarding the issue of security, according to the International Society for hyperhidrosis (one of the most respected resources excessive sweating), Botox was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in 2004 for the treatment of 'axillary hyperhidrosis. The IHS provides that "Botox is manufactured by Allergan Inc., Irvine, Califo
ia, is the most studied brand of botulinum toxin in the world BOTOX has been available for over a decade and has been used to treat more than 1 million patients with various conditions, including spasticity and impaired movement. With FDA approval, joining the more than 20 other U.S. states have already approved the use of Botox for excessive sweating. "
They also report of botulinum toxin is effective and successful treatment of excessive sweating when antiperspirants have had little success or not. Although there is some attention if any discomfort during the administration of injections, seems to be increasingly popular and promising treatment. More importantly, however, their evaluation is safe.
But there are reasonable grounds for concern, or at least caution. The protein from which Botox is derived, actually very toxic. But given the scope of testing and its increasing use in the medical world, it seems that this risk is managed. As there is risk of harm if misused, it is important that you seek medical advice renowned - if possible, a doctor trained specifically to treat excessive sweating. (The IHS has a doctor finder tool on their site to ensure you get the safest treatment is only the doctors of renown.)
It 'also interesting to note that the treatment is not permanent. The potential effects gradually vanish, then the need for ongoing treatment program (the effect lasts long range 7-16 months.) Obviously, the implications of this cost should be considered.
In the end, then, the Botox might be a good solution for those desperate for relief from the problems of excessive sweating. Appears to be effective and continues to provide medical and government approval, is considered safe. Of course, only you can decide if it is right for you.
