How to Become a Life Coach

As a Life Coach, one of the questions that I am most commonly asked is how to become a Life Coach. Whether it is in a social gathering, a formal event or TV or radio interviews, I am often confronted with the question of how to become a Life Coach. It seems like everybody would like to be one . . . and we should!

But to become a Life Coach requires a lot more than you think. While there are so many schools/organizations out there that are eager to certify you as one, becoming a true Life Coach is way more than that. It has to do with your heart, your characteristics, and most importantly, your purpose in life. As I wrote in my book, ‘Welcome to Greatness’, “Until we start making the necessary effort to fulfill our life purpose, working diligently towards making the world a better place each day we have the privilege of living in it, we would have unfortunately given up the unique opportunity to live longer than our physical existence. In fact, death wins when we die without having fulfilled our life purpose, without having accomplished our individual reason for being born. If you are yet to discover yours, look deeply within yourself; search your heart, your mind and your soul for those natural talents that you were blessed with, and then start using those talents to make an impact in your home, workplaces and communities. Pray harder for God to open your eyes to your purpose in life and to grant you the wisdom, passion and strength to pursue your purpose in life no matter what”.

What you do in life should never be taken lightly; definitely not when it involves the life of another. To be a Life Coach, you must be willing to consider yourself a student of life. Life Coaching is actually less about coaching and more about learning. It is less about talking and more about listening. How open is your heart? How humble are you? How determined are you to help others overcome their life challenges? How determined are you to be better? Have you ever had a Life Coach? Can we give what we don't have? What is the driving force behind your motivation to become a Life Coach? How coachable are you?

Education, exposure and experience position you for successful outcomes as a Life Coach, but they are not the main prerequisite for becoming a Life Coach. The main prerequisite is the humble willingness to serve with integrity; the selfless desire to help others become greater than you are. According to the International Coaching Federation, the largest Coach Credentialing body in the world, of which we are a member, “Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership that is designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives.

A coach helps people to improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives and businesses. Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.”

At The Exhortation, we believe that a Life, Business or Executive Coach is someone who consistently pursues the knowledge and experiences that is necessary to take his or her life and the lives of others to the greater heights. He or she consistently demonstrates contagious passion for personal development, abounding empathy for undesirable human situations, and unabashed determination to assist the people who are willing to take their lives and businesses to the next level. This is what we pride ourselves in, what you will experience with us during your Coaching Program.

At The Exhortation Global Institute of Life and Business Strategies, we have been fortunate enough to coach many people all over the worldwide on varieties of life and business matters. We have coached Executives, Entrepreneurs, Politicians, Athletes, Community and Religious Leaders, University and High School Students, and diverse groups of men, women and youths. However, we are very selective about who we train as a Life Coach. In fact, we would only train those who have successfully completed one of our coaching programs. Can you really coach someone when you have never been coached?

As you consider this honourable desire whether to become a Life Coach or not, ask yourself many questions. Question your willingness and ability to ensure they are void of any selfish or arrogant motive, for until you are certain that this is the purpose which God created you for, based on your level of faith, passion, humility, integrity and diligence, do not venture into it. It is becoming a medical doctor because of the prestige and financial with not enough passion for it. You stand of leading many astray.

If you need help in exploring this possibility, then seize the opportunity to contact us and we would gladly work with you to make a decision and then follow through with it. In the words of Og Mandino, I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply all my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.”
