It All Starts with Small Steps

Some twenty years ago I finally escaped from an abusive relationship. It had taken me quite a while to get the courage to do this, but it was a decision made in a "moment". All I had left of me were my two gorgeous children and I knew they didn't deserve to live through this with me. At the time I didn't know that I didn't deserve it either!
Once we were all safe I made the decision to change my life and to start rebuilding me. I had no confidence, no energy and really, no hope. But looking at my children I knew I had to start somewhere.
My journey of self improvement was long but I never gave up and because I was so afraid of being in public - this is where I started - with just small steps - one day at a time.
Every morning I got up, showered and dressed as if there was going to be an amazing and exciting day ahead of me. At the very least my day would be filled with the joy of my children - and they deserved that I looked positive. After taking them to school I would go and find a coffee shop and buy a newspaper. Every day I did this and for a long time I hid behind the newspaper. If I became afraid, I would just leave. If someone approached me, I would just leave, but eventually I became comfortable at being in this public place, and slowly I learned to look up and smile again and eventually I said "good morning" to someone who spoke to me. Small steps which took a while.
Fifteen years later I was an international sports delegate and was asked to give an impromptu speech to about 5000 people in Las Vegas. It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life - but I did it - and nobody knew what an accomplishment that was for me. I knew I had succeeded.
Then I found out about life coaching and realised that if I had had a life coach I may have reached my goal a bit quicker - and that is why I became a life coach and have developed a website so that people can receive the support they want. The journey can sometimes seem long - but it is all for a reason and is definitely worth taking one step at a time.
