Written by Chiranjit Roy
Liver disease does not show any noticeable signs but sometimes symptoms like yellowish skin, abdominal pain, swelling of limbs, itchy skin, chronic fatigue, loss of appetite, and vomiting tendency may occur. You must not neglect the symptoms and seek immediate medical attention if the symptom persists for long and become so severe that you can't stay still. There are many causes of liver disease, and some has been described below:
Infection
Viral or parasitic infections can cause inflammation and reduce the function of the liver. You can get contaminated by the infected person through blood, semen, or food. The most common type of infections is:
1. Hepatitis A
2. Hepatitis B
3. Hepatitis C
Genetics
An abnormal gene inherited from one of the parents can also damage your liver. Genetic liver diseases include:
a. Hemochromatosis
b. Wilson's Disease
c. Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
Depending on the cause of your liver problem complications may vary. Once detected, go for treatment as untreated liver disease can develop into a life-threatening condition.
Measures for Prevention of Liver Disease:
Drink alcohol in moderation to prevent fatty liver. One drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men is a healthy practice, and anything above it can increase your liver damage risk. If you are someone who takes intravenous drugs don’t ever share needles for injecting drugs. Safe sex is also a healthy practice to reduce the risk to your liver.
If you're at increased risk of contracting hepatitis, talk to your doctor and get vaccinated. Avoid nonprescription drugs or take them in recommended doses. Once you are diagnosed with liver infection, visit your nearest clinic for liver and digestive disease treatment in CA. Take suggestions from your doctor before taking any herbal supplements. While handling or spraying toxic chemicals take necessary precautions so that the chemicals do not get absorbed by your skin.
