If there is one thing that we would like to change, it would be the notion that we can change something that has occurred in the past. Perhaps you may agree that if something occurred in the past, we can accept what happened and choose to begin moving forward. We can decide to change how we feel about the situation by letting go of wanting to be right. We can decide to change how we respond at a future time in relation to similar situations; although realistically we cannot change the past. In other words, we can’t change what has already occurred.
Think of something that you would like to change. Now notice your feelings about this situation. Just as we are unable to change or undo what we had for breakfast, we can’t change other occurrences related to the past. We have to accept that what we can do to move forward is to begin making better decisions.
The habit of struggling to change the past is frustrating. This is like having our car in gear, such as park or in neutral, and trying to move forward. Same as with our car, before we can move forward, we first need to decide where we are going, and then choose to put the gear into drive. Life is pretty much the same thing. Our having a good life requires our making a series of decisions. Each day we make decisions–-some favorable and some unfavorable. If we are trying to figure things out, or trying to change the past, we are acting in a counterproductive manner. In order for us to move forward in an area that we are stuck or in conflict with, requires our deciding what is it that we would really like to experience (positive only); otherwise we pretty much remain where we are which is STUCK.
Whenever we are trying to figure things out, it is an indication that we don’t have an answer or know what to do to resolve the situation that is making us feel uncomfortable. We also don’t know how to change what we are currently feeling. So instead of continuing to respond in a non-productive manner, a better way is to surrender to accepting the situation exactly as it currently is. Regardless if the situation involves your car, home, your health or community; your working environment, finances, relationships, or something else, please take a moment and just agree to accept the situation, in this moment, without wanting to change anything related to the situation.
Just by deciding to look at the situation as it is, actually helps us to rationalize that we can achieve better results. Why? Simply because we stop fighting with ourselves and also stop wanting to change the past. When we begin to hold in mind, calmer and more peaceful thoughts in regards the matter we are facing, we effortlessly begin to move into higher energy. When we decide to move out of desperation, we can easily move up into courageousness, acceptance and peace. Being in higher energy allows us to respond more optimistically. We also have more energy available to take appropriate action.
Making a decision to be positive is the best decision that we can make. Each positive decision creates a foundation for more positive outcomes. Positive decisions also allows for us to let go of being stuck in fear. The more we practice–thinking and acting positively, the better we feel about challenges that we are facing. Decide each day to have a good day in-spite of whatever is going on around you. Lester Levenson and Larry Crane have said, “Hold in mind ONLY what you want (in a positive manner), and that’s what you will be creating for yourself.”
We all have choices to make. Begin slowly by taking small steps towards the bigger picture. Do what you can do and be supportive of your moving forward. Positive decisions will help you move forward with less anxiety, stress, or malice. Being positive never hurts. Negative thoughts and actions hurt us and or relationships with others. We can stop the cycle of misery by taking responsibility and begin to examine our own thinking. By seeing clearly how we are reacting and relating to the stories that our playing within our own mind will help us to also stop blaming others or believing we need someone to come along and rescue us. When we can honestly see our own contributions to whatever current circumstances we are challenged by, we can immediately decide to act in a different manner. Life is a decision. Change your mind and your whole word changes.
