Preparation and Positive Attitude in Controlling Stage Fright
Written by Colm Ian
Remember that you’re not alone in experiencing stage fright when doing presentation or during speaking. Singers, actors, dancers, musicians and athletes are oftentimes stricken with the same phenomenon or syndrome. In fact, biographies of popular celebrities often reveal that these celebrities experience continuing stage fright even with years of success.
Here are 2 P’s to help you control your stage fright.
Preparationr
Preparation is absolutely important. This takes into account your material, event/audience analysis and the setting. Know the audience together with the significance of the event aside from knowing the subject is vital. Without knowing the significant reason, it may lead to anxiety.
Exercise your piece by audio or video recording yourself to help you visualize your performance and this develops your memory. Researchers have confirmed utilization of video recording in preparation of a presentation or public speaking reduces your anxiety and improves your performance.
Build up a personal relaxation ritual. Try improvising a prompt so you will not be anxious on forgetting a sequence in your material. Prepared flipcharts, slides, presentation software, or pictures on the wall can be used for this.
Positive Attituder
Shape and build your attitude around your successes. Recall on what it feels like, what success looks like. Even when you execute in a less than a prima fashion, remember that the parts that you did were great. People who are overpowered with stage fright are people with negative attitudes. Those that imagine in that minute everything could go wrong or spring up a litany of all other negatives. Substitute these negatives attitudes and thoughts with positive ones. Remember that a positive attitude will let you search of any help that you may need to make better. Negative attitudes on the other hand hamper not just your professional life but also your personal life.
Decide ahead that this will be an enjoyable experience and trust that your body will execute as what you have practiced on as performance draws on strength from faith.
