Rewrite Your Script, set the Stage for a Successful Life, on your terms.

Living the successful life is both attainable and sustainable by everyone, regardless of creed, race, or social status.
The single most influential element of attaining success is to be vigilant in taking control of your life and manage the various components accordingly: health, social, education, emotional, spiritual and physical. With proper self management, one can create infinite and limitless opportunities. Taking ownership of your life and planning for success is something that only you can do for yourself. This is the single most important job you will undertake in your life. In fact, if one is not competent at self management, he or she will not be able manage other areas outside of self successfully: Parental role, career, marriage and so forth.

There are countless strategies that one can utilize as tools for attaining success. Some salient contributing factors to success are outlined below. One of the first and most important step is to objectively evaluate and analyze where things are in your live today versus where you would like to be in the future. Some of the important influences that shaped our lives such as media, family of origin, self esteem (or lacking thereof), religion, personality, community, poverty, neglect and abuse must be looked at and explore. That said, it is crucial that the individual is brutally honest in his/her self evaluation. The individual must learn how she has evolved into the person she is today. There are several proven techniques and strategies that can be utilized to set realistic and attainable goals. A healthy Self Esteem is one of the most important pre-requisites for self empowerment and ultimate success. Some elements that are conducive to success are outlined below.

Seven elements that are crucial to attaining and retaining a successful life:

1. Embrace honesty and authenticity: In a ‘cut throat dog eat dog world,’ it is easier than ever for us to compromise our integrity and moral standards. We often rationalize our behavior by pointing out that so and so are doing it. This is hardly an excuse let alone an acceptable one. You must retain and guard your integrity at any cost; as this is all about you and how you interact with your world.

2. Show gratitude: you must be thankful for even the smallest of favor; people want to know that you appreciate what they give to you regardless of how small. It’s an incentive to encourage more kindness in the future.

3. Take time to know you: In order to successfully manage yourself and your life, you must take time to get to know you: your likes, dislikes, needs, wants, goals, desires, what makes you tick, your weaknesses, your strengths, abilities and so by getting to know you, you are in a better position to self manage successfully. Let’s look at it this way; you take time to know your potential spouse, your kids, your neighbors, friends and your employers in an effort to ensure a successful interaction. And so, its only befitting to get to know and understand the most important person in your life, you.

4. Develop a habit of asking for what you want. In a lot of cases, we are afraid to ask for what we want and this is true of people we are close to. Take for instance, your spouse snores a lot which interferes with your need for sleep and rest. It has gotten so bad that it affects your ability to function on your job because of sleep deprivation. Wouldn’t it be a lot easier to speak with your spouse and explore solutions together? You would be amazed at how many people and in particular women, tolerate things in silence and suffered because of this. So please, get into the habit of stating your case; its worth it in the long run.

1. Surround yourself with positive influences: You know how it is; you become what you associate yourself with. “show me your friends and I will tell you who you are” Take for instance, if you are hanging around people who party a lot and drink too much alcohol, eventually you will be tempted as these people become boring when they are tipsy and so you join the partying and become one of them. Same goes for anything else, “if they don’t become like you, you will become like them.” This is so true for just about everything that you do in life; for example, the music you listen to. Bear in mind, because a lot of these influences are insidious, it’s not easily detectable.

2. Take care of the most important person in your life, you! By this, I am not only referring to getting that new hairdo or outfit, I mean take care from the inside out so you are in tip top shape to cope with the challenges that may come your way. You need to be in shape in all areas: emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, intellectual……………

3. Take stock of your self image and self esteem: How you feel about your self play a key role in how successful you are in your life. The way you feel about yourself impacts the decisions you make. This cannot be emphasized enough. With all the negative stereotyping and the unrealistic images of success put forth by the media and other outside influences, its imperative that we get to know our selves and ensure that we love, nurture and take care of ourselves.

As the great one, the honorable Marcus Garvey so eloquently stated, “If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence, you have won, even before you have started.”
This principle was true seventy five years ago and is still very pertinent today. Some people regard success as not only fleeting, but unattainable and unsustainable. It can only be achieved by the elite few. NONSENE! Success is the right and entitlement of every man, woman, boy and girl who occupy this planet. Please remember, you are the only person in the world who can make you successful, no one else can do that for you, not: your mother, father, sister, brother or your grand parents. That said, one must realize that in order to attain any degree of success, one must persevere, stay focus, be authentic to self and others. Additionally, use failure as a stepping stone, nurture your self esteem, take calculated risks and set S.M.A.R.T goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and time sensitive. And please bear in mind, SUCCESS IS A CHOICE!
