In the midst of a faulty economic recovery, high unemployment, continuing foreclosures, and the prospects of inflation or hyperinflation, people around the world continue to focus more attention on things and people that cannot and will not help them in their daily lives than on the work that needs to be done to get their lives back on track. So, what do Prince William, Sarah Palin’s Alaska & Cat vs Gator have in common? Distraction!

So, we wish Prince William and Kate Middleton much success in their upcoming nuptials. We congratulate Sarah Palin on her highly rated reality show. We also think its incredible that a cat would stand up to 2 alligators. However, there are several other key things in our lives that we should remain focused on. Here are the 3 areas you can’t afford to lose sight of:

The Destabilizing U.S. Dollar
While not as intriguing as an episode of “Dancing With the Stars”, the fate of the dollar will have a huge impact on your life. What makes a diamond expensive? There aren’t a lot of them available to buy. A diamond’s value is tied to its lack of availability. What gives the U.S. dollar its value? The amount of it in circulation at any given time. When there are too few dollars, it strengthens in purchasing power and thus can purchase more. When there are too many dollars, it weakens in purchasing power and thus purchases less.

The Federal Reserve release $1.7 Trillion into the economy with Quantitative Easing Part 1, and will release another $600 Billion with Quantitative Easing Part 2. This excess cash in economy decreases the value of the dollar. When the value of the dollar decreases, prices typically increase because you now need more dollars to get the same value. According to the National Inflation Association (www.inflation.us). we already seeing inflation in one of our key sectors for daily living: FOOD! Energy prices are starting to move up as well.

In addition, there are additional calls for the world’s reserve currency, which is currently the U.S. dollar, to be changed to either a basket of currencies (perhaps like the Special Drawing Rights from the United Nations) or to a new world currency. The reserve currency is the money used to transact in products traded on the global market (oil, gold, etc). Because the U.S. dollar is the world’s reserve currency, any country wanting to purchase oil, for example, has to have U.S. dollars on hand to do so. So, what will happen if the reserve currency is changed to something other than the U.S. dollar? Countries would exchange those U.S. dollars for whatever the new reserve currency will be and the dollar will weaken a great deal more.

Put down the remote, and research what you just read. This is a better use of your time.

The Economic Recovery
Look, another “Family Guy” marathon...and many people still do not have jobs. Does the term “Jobless Recovery” sound a bit strange to you? It should. What it says is that somehow the economy will recover, and the jobs that once existed will not return. How can there be a recovery in a consumption based society if there are too few people able to purchase items to consume? The media tells us that this is now the “new normal”.

The speed of the recovery is also suspect. Are the growth numbers we hear about a result of Federal Reserve money printing and Government spending, or genuine growth based on companies and individuals producing consumable products and services? If growth is based on the former, and the money printing and government spending fails to stimulate the economy, growth numbers will decline once again and government debt will have risen for naught.

Stop worrying about the details of Tiger Wood’s new mansion, his golf swing and his relationship with his ex and kids. Allow him to focus on his life. I suggest you begin to do the same. Read up on the details of this economic recovery and come to your own conclusions on how well or not well we are doing locally and globally.

Loss of Rights
We like our dramas! We spend hours watching soap operas, vampire television shows, and battling news commentators. We watched the gentleman who refused the airport body scan and airport pat down in the same way. We focused more on the drama of his interaction with the TSA staff than we did on the point he was trying to make: “Security is important, but not at the expense of my dignity”. It is now known that while promises were made that no body scans would not be saved, some were. It is also now known that the pilots and flight attendants also do not want to be subjected to this treatment.

While the drama at the airports continue to unwind, let’s not forget that you can be detained indefinitely without charges and your telephones can be tapped without a warrant. Those living in New York and New Jersey were once shocked by the presence of police and military personnel armed with AK-47s at the train station. Now, it is the “new normal”. Folks that were once terrified by this site now happily pass by it every day without a second’s thought.

Our rights are dwindling away, and we sit by and eventually accept that fact as normal and necessary. But why look into this and understand the price of our new sense of security? “Desperate Housewives” is on!

In Summary
The information is in front of our eyes to read and watch on a daily basis. Rather than taking the time to understand what is being said and how it affects our lives daily, we glance over it and move on to something that entertains the mind and the senses. We live our lives living other people’s lives through television, movies and novels. We make a more serious attempt at understanding the lives of fictional characters than we do in understanding our own lives. We have to wake up before its too late. Too much has already happened that you had the capacity to know about, but you chose to ignore. Don’t allow the misdirection to continue. Read, research, think, and then act to protect yourself and your family.
