PCOS is of four types, namely insulin-resistant PCOS, Inflammatory PCOS, Hidden-cause PCOS, and Pill-induced PCOS.

Insulin-resistant PCOS:

In Insulin-resistant PCOS, we see increased glucose levels, elevated insulin, abnormal glucose tolerance test and may have elevated LH. It is the most common type of PCOS and caused by sugar, trans fat, smoking and pollution. The high levels of insulin become a barrier for ovulation and provoke the ovaries to produce testosterone.

Inflammatory PCOS:

Inflammatory PCOS is caused due to chronic immune activation as a result of stress, toxins from the environment, intestinal permeability and inflammatory dietary like gluten. In Inflammatory PCOS, ovulation stops, androgens are produced due to imbalanced hormones.

Symptoms like skin allergies or infections, headaches, insufficient vitamin D in the blood, abnormal blood count, increased thyroid levels points towards inflammatory PCOS.

Hidden-cause PCOS:

It takes approximately 3-4 months to resolve hidden-cause PCOS after the cause behind it is addressed. Hidden-cause PCOS is known as the simpler form of PCOS.

Causes of Hidden-cause PCOS:

● Thyroid disease
● Too much soy intake
● Deficiency of iodine (ovaries need iodine)
● Low carb diet
● A vegetarian diet (it makes you zinc deficient, and the ovaries need zinc)
● Artificial sweeteners.

Pill-induced PCOS:
The second most common type of PCOS. Pill-induced PCOS develops due to birth control pills as the birth control pill suppresses ovulation. Typically it is seen that the ovulation resumes once the pill is iscontinued, but sometimes it can take longer that is months or even years.
