[The gist of an article: “MMS, The Closet Spiritualist by: Narayani Ganesh, published on 16 Sept. 2012 in “Speaking Tree” of the Times of India.

The widely respected economist and scholar have been credited with heralding a new era of economic liberalization in India with his laissez-faire policy. Yet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been widely criticized at home and abroad.

Perhaps he has no dark side, then. Manmohan Singh could, in all likelihood, be an advanced spiritualist. He also shows great resilience in adverse situations, whether in a political, social or economic emergency.

It might not be in order to compare Manmohan Singh with King Janaka, who is the only one Krishna praises in the Bhagwad Gita for having transcended everything even while administering a kingdom. However, there are tantalizing similarities between the PM’s studied ‘indifference’ and the non-attachment and transcendence of someone like Janaka, that leads one to conclude that Manmohan Singh is laissez-faire (tolerant/liberal) by nature, in the spiritual sense.]

It is true that a man like our Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is an exception not only in his worldly life and in the power corridor but also an outstanding being religiously motivated, too. Aided with strong sense of rational thinking Dr. Singh is truly spiritually inclined. Apart from his daily life and living—amid responsibly that he has to shoulder, one may be interested about his creativity.

Yes, evidently as an economist he acclaimed higher order of merit and perfection which has been articulated in our administration once in 1991and now again in 2012 after 21 years. No doubt, he was born as a brilliant baby, achieved grand success in academic life and gradually became stalwart in the power corridor and eventually, our Prime Minister during his long period of eight years endowed with so many unwanted attributions—all irreverent. He maintained a balanced life and extended his views from behind without vanity or ego. He is ever modest and affectionate. From humanity to nobility and finally to divinity Dr. Singh lifted his personality.

Still there is something to realize from the standpoint of Ma-Mahajnan. She proved herself as a complete human being leading initially a conjugal life, as most affectionate mother to the children and devotees. Coordinating worldly-cum-spiritual striving, and as an unique organizer in her family and in the locality she appeared as the most outstanding personality. In this context I should quote from the Mother who stands exceptionally brilliant amid her exclusive creation—all authentic and throws light on every religion.

Her introduction to her “On The Quest” inspires us all the while and we get started receiving the essence of life without thinking the least about the highest attainment undeniably. “That knowledge which passes all human understanding, and that thought-stream, unseen and unknown, that descends on you and you rest in that. Without theorizing about, following the way of harmony, you had better speak it all out. Just think how much intellect and memory it requires. This is the way.”

Will anybody find it difficult? All that I mean to say is the knowledge which transcends all knowledge, descends on one. Thus its way of thinking and its very language is to be found in the very world of realization. There is nobody in the outer world who knows or whom you can ask. Still all the time you have to depend on that—how to master that enough to give it expression. This is the mode or the way which I speak of.”

It was an awesome experience in my life. For a few days during winter of 1975, amid critical domesticity Mother gave me dictation as time could permit and I put her every word from her holy lips in black and white. Simultaneously, I got those tape recorded--all that she expounded even being interrupted due to hazards of her family and neighbor. How fortunate I am, indeed! However, after her departure on the 22 January 2011, I lead almost a lonely life and keep me engrossed in the study of her most authentic writings and photographs. Often I look within with wonder and awe and do feel something beyond any comprehension. None ever could figure out how vast her divinity was!

She was ever spontaneous in her composition. She expressed subtle thoughts that she realized through songs and sermons, discourse and catechism in a state of “Conscious Trance”. Among so many books I would request everybody to study a few—namely, “Unraveling of the Mystery of the Universe”, “Genius is, in fact, Basically Knowledge”, “Molding in the Initiation of Truth”, “On The Quest”, “I’m the Mother; the Nothingness, too” and a few others would soon be available as one might feel interested.

Finally, let me quote last three paragraphs from her unique song she sang on “The Concept of God” keeping her busy in cooking in the kitchen. I took down standing by the window. On that very day I was confirmed within myself that she is the Embodiment of Miracle. Please follow and get the essence:

Roaming round the world / no response do I get; / Who’s there, calling me from within? / Somebody, as it were, calls me, indeed. / It only echoes ‘Ma’—the Mother; / Sometimes it seems to sound / ‘Na’, ‘Na’, ‘Na’--No, No, No.

Come, come, come. / All that’s mine, I leave behind, / I rush forward, further I rush / Something more I’ll search / and bring back. / I’ll adorn, adorn with all so lovely—/ lovely to all, / That—that Splendid One, indeed.

So I set in order one by one / All the things to give it shape / I create a Form. / God art Thou, Energy is Thine / Thou art merciful / Thy slave I would be.

To conclude, I would like to draw your attention to delve deep into both the life and their contributions to our society--from our country to the world as well. Dr. Manmohan Singh is, no doubt, a spiritualist whereas Great Ma-Mahajnan is a spiritual genius, without the least exaggeration, ever born in the history of humankind. I invite, on behalf of the members of our Society and Trust, one and all to pay us a kind visit and know everything that I have long been saying nobly about Ma-Mahajnan.

Author's Bio:

Ma-Mahajnan, a matchless spiritual genius, expressed her entire creation in a state of "Conscious Trance” which has all been stuffed with matters of highly philosophical values and related with strong literary sense. She could not attend even Primary School due to extreme poverty. Strangely, she was taught all by herself in the School of Nature. The weird and wonderful life is possibly the souse of her vast experience and profound realization. She was born on 17 July, 1928 and passed away on 22 January, 2011.

Listen to what Ma-Mahajnan said once: “I may as well tell you in advance; I haven’t read about any Yoga, I am, in fact, innocent of any learning. Just believe me; you should know this in advance. In fact, if you speak in English, I won’t understand that. I am a perfect ignoramus.” Listen to what I tell you briefly about the early phase. Listen first about my life. I was married off at the age of thirteen. I was the second wife, my husband married for the second time and thus I came into his family. I didn’t get any chance for schooling.” You’ll perhaps weep to hear how I came as a wife, driven by utter poverty or how they packed me off. After that all at once I slowly progressed in the domain of that ‘Nothingness’.--Please refer to “I’m the Mother; the Nothingness, too.”

Asokananda Prosad, Ma-Mahajnan's first disciple, is an engineer, a philosopher and a philanthropist. Being the missing son—the eldest and the first disciple of Great Ma-Mahajnan, he has had to shoulder so many burdens of Ashram and Temple. Of course, there are few brothers and sisters, very sincere and honest, intelligent and industrious. They help him in every way. He has long been translating Works of Ma-Mahajnan, written in Bengali, into English. The Mother didn’t just put those in black and white, but simply expressed, extempore and spontaneous, in a state of “Conscious Trance” and Asokananda got those tape-recorded.
