We are all connected and are therefore affected by every single happening to some degree or another. Sometimes the impact can be felt in an extreme manner like being caught in the eye of a hurricane; at other times it will barely be felt, like the vaguest ripple upon the surface of the ocean or just the gentlest touch of wind against your skin.
Think for a moment about one thing. If you knew that every single thought you had or action which you executed would affect everyone else in the world, to a lesser or greater degree, would you be proud of that thought or action? Do your thoughts and actions have a positive impact or a negative impact not only upon yourself but upon other people who live in the world around you?
What may seem to be the tiniest thing can have massive impact in your life and also in everyone else's. Let us take a simple, everyday scenario. You wake up in the morning and you have a headache. You get up but you can't find your socks. They're not where they should be but you do eventually find them and put them on. Then you discover that the milk in the fridge is out of date and you have to drink your coffee black. After you drink it you realize that it probably wouldn't help your headache. You can't find any tablets to take for your headache and you dash out of the house late and in a seriously bad mood. You mumble at your neighbor as you pass by and drive aggressively on your way to work, honking your horn at all those other cars that get in your way, exclaiming to yourself that nobody knows how to drive. How many lives have been impacted by this scene? Just yours or an infinite number of people's lives?
Your neighbor may have been feeling bright and breezy until you mumbled your good-day. Then he or she may have responded in many different ways; it may have triggered in them a feeling of disquiet, or it may have barely been noticed. They may have started the day feeling frustrated and become quite angry at your perceived rudeness. Who knows how that may have impacted upon their day, and the experience of the people they subsequently came into contact with? Every thought or action does inevitably have such a domino effect.
Just as flowers open in the sunlight and close at night, and rain water will find its way down a mountain side, we humans are connected in this same inevitable way. Rain doesn't fall and then just stop. It has an impact upon the ground it falls upon. And when more rain falls and joins force with rain already fallen it creates an ever greater impact. What starts as a small trickle can become a stream and then turn into a gushing and foaming river.
If you were to go out today and smile at everyone whom you came into contact with, it is inevitable that you will impact positively upon far more people than just those whom you individually come into contact with. This is an undeniable fact and presents us with a great opportunity to make the world a better place by doing something which is easy, coasts nothing at all and takes no time to effect.
Impact is something which I think about a lot, especially the effect of subconscious expectations. It is very difficult to trace back to whence something began because of the infinite twists and turns, possibilities and choices which one faces on their journey through life. Which individual element had the most impact will always be unclear, although to me there is one over-riding factor which underpins almost everything else. Your (most often unconscious) expectations are the power behind the choices which you make. These expectations act like glue as they gather together collections of experiences which accord with them. When they are not playing the part of glue they moon-light as an ultra strong magnet, attracting new experiences which are then presented as yet more choices and opportunities in your life.
It is difficult to identify the individual parts of the learning curve of life. To me, being a hypnotherapist is so amazingly rewarding. To be able to help another person to see something from a different angle, and to watch an individual as they grasp their own previously latent power is so fulfilling. The impact is like a snow ball gathering snow as it rolls ever faster down a hillside.
My friends think that I am lucky, and I KNOW that I am. I also know that you have to put yourself in a position whereby luck can come to you, and this process of positioning yourself for positive impact starts in your own mind; it all begins in your thoughts, your expectations and your focus. Hypnosis is a valuable friend to those who seek to create a positive impact. Hypnosis allows access to the subconscious mind and so allows one to tailor their expectations and focus greater attention upon what you wish to happen in this life.
