Lori Kirstein is the founder of Possibilities! Seminars. A veteran actor of 18+ years, and a 30-year veteran of Corporate America - Sales, Marketing, Human Resources and more - Lori broke through shyness, an unthinking belief in personal limitations, and even through mental illness in her early 30's, beginning more than 15 years of successful exploration into the realms of psychology, acting, interpersonal communication, and personal development.
Lori gives keynote speeches, leads workshops and coaches individuals and groups in Effective Communication and Public Speaking in order to enhance personal and professional growth, and to introduce advanced communication/self-expression techniques and attitudes to those who suspect that there are freer, more self-directed and expansive ways to live, to work, to serve and to love.
Some to whom Emotional Freedom and Interpersonal Communication work is particularly helpful are:
Business Owners
Presenters
Salespeople
Performers
Actors...
...and anyone who wants to experience more empowerment, more self-expression and more self-direction in his or her life.
An Introduction to The "Workshop Survival" Workshop
I love workshops! I love personal development/personal growth workshops, practical application workshops, you name it! I am a perpetual student, fascinated by our mental kinks and emotional stumbling blocks and by the routes to strengthening and empowering ourselves. I believe in group learning as a powerful and community-building experience. I know that when we are in a rut in our lives, it sometimes takes jet fuel under our fannies to get us up and moving again with some hope and enthusiasm; and workshops provide that. The most exciting workshops I have attended are those that get the audience involved, up-and-moving, connecting to the other attendees, talking, laughing, dancing! These workshops excite feelings and actions that have faded from our society: hope, interconnection, emotional openness and freedom, dreaming, open mindedness, and the freedom of being childlike (not childish) again.
So what’s wrong with that?
Nothing! In fact, far from it! But as a decades-long veteran of workshops I have seen both the best and the worst of workshops – and more importantly the best and worst of the aftereffects of workshops. The After-the-Party’s-Over realities are not always the best, and there are tangible, measurable reasons for that. While some people leave the workshops with a plan for using their new knowledge in their day-to-day lives, other people leave the workshops with holes in their bank accounts and no plans for seeding their day-to-day lives with their new information or behaviors. All of us are sent out the door with lots of hugs (in the personal development workshops, anyway!), optimism alive in our hearts, and a surge of ecstatic energy. But the question of what we do with it is up to us!
I am not bashing workshops. I lead them myself. Workshops teach, incite, instruct, further or begin careers, heal emotions, raise energy for life, heal bodies, you name it!
But I also know that where there is high energy – which the most successful and visible workshops contain as a facet of their information “transmission” – there is an equally high probability of common sense taking a back seat to enthusiasm.
As with anything related to change, there are problems and pitfalls to watch out for. But few people talk about them. And in not talking about them, a huge gulf develops and grows larger as the country’s financial woes expand, and our desperate search for answers grows simultaneously…and exponentially.
Some of us become chronic workshoppers, going from workshop to workshop, hoping with each investment of time and money that this one will be the one that shows us how to reach our relationship goals, our career dreams, our financial freedom.
Some of us make a large financial investment into a workshop series during the high of the workshop, only to go home and regret the investment.
And others have the experience of feeling disillusioned by that gulf between the workshop education experience and real life, and give up on workshops altogether.
There are many ways to learn, once you have gone beyond the age of – or interest in –traditional schooling. But workshops are among the most dynamic. So The "Workshop Survival" Workshop takes a look at what a workshop is and who the people are who want, or need, to attend one. And it offers a series of safeguards called The Rescue Wheel - those safeguards that you can apply to your workshop experience to keep your feet on the ground while you are expanding mentally and emotionally, and while you are being challenged to make additional financial investments.
