Have you ever been verbally attacked and found yourself at a loss for words? Or have you become defensive and found yourself drawn into a verbal volley that left you drained emotionally and energetically? Finding Personal Power Under Verbal Attack Every verbal attack is either an attempt to bring you down to her energy level, a projection, an invitation to an argument, or a defense to something you have said. You would be surprised how little it really has to do with you.
Why is it that some people achieve seemingly impossible things while others shy away at the smallest challenge? Why is it that only a tiny percentage of the world population go on to accomplish some extraordinary things in their lifetime, while the rest simply tick along from birth to death? I wonder what it is that we are so afraid of, and how we can break through the barriers that are keeping us safe, but not necessarily happy, so that we can go accomplish some amazing things.
“Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.” - E. L. Doctorow I have written and spoken many times about strategies for creating authentic happiness, and the recurring theme has always been “Happiness is not something you can pursue; it is who you are”.
It is fascinating that the expression âto swim against the streamâ is a metaphor for making choices in life that go against prevailing opinions. This is considered to be a challenge that is hard to attain. How interesting that we perceive natural phenomena to be difficult. When we think of salmon swimming upstream back to their place of birth or the thousands of miles birds travel to migrate, we see them as enormous undertakings. However, I wonder if it is even possible f
The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor. - Vince Lombardi OK, so you’ve taken time to dream. When we enter this world as babes, we bring with us two simple yet profound lifelong desires; to love and be loved. Everything else pales in comparison. We yearn for love and thrive in it. Experiencing love makes the world feel right. Yet growing up, we may have encounter people, situations, or events that left us feeling flawed, broken, or bound to a pain we cannot get free of. We may have carried this pain – these remnants of the past – with us throughout our lives, eventually making it our own. How? What we live with we learn.
A client just asked: “I know I use food for comfort and to soothe myself. What can I do instead?” That is such a common question—and one that can be so difficult to answer--especially in the moment. When we want comfort, food can seem like such a quick, easy, accessible fix. I recommend that you spend some time generating a list of possible comfort strategies. They won’t all fit in every situation, but options are always helpful.
Gwyneth Paltrow is an Oscar-winning actor. She sings. She writes a blog. She cooks well. She's authored a best-selling cookbook. And in mastering so many talents, she's managed to irritate a few people. (Okay, it doesn't help that she's tall, thin, attractive, married to Chris Martin of Coldplay and gets to perform with the cast of Glee when she's not romping around Spain with chef Mario Batali, creating a book and a PBS series en route). So what does Gwyneth Paltrow have to do with you?
Most people think they know themselves pretty well, but how well do you really know yourself? Do you know exactly how you feel about certain things and why, or do you tend to judge how you feel by how you think you should feel? Are you comfortable with your feelings and the "inner you," or is ...
Best selling author Robert Greene wrote the wildly popular book, “The 48 Laws of Power”. The book teaches you step by step how to attain power (by the author’s definition) through intimidation, fear, scape-goating and deception. It provides historical references to how each law was effectively ...
"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." - Confucius They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, which is a notion that has always intrigued me greatly. We all have moments, every so often, in which we ponder deep philosophical questions, like, ‘What is the meaning of life?’ or ‘Does a falling tree make any sound if there is no one there to hear it?’ While we can go round and round in our heads never really getting to the bottom of these issues, it’s still interesting and fun just to investigate the riddle.
Have you ever had someone in your life that on the surface seemed like he/she should be a part of your life but deep down you had a feeling that something was not right? If you answered no, then stop reading this now because your safe little world is just that…safe; but, if you are like most ...
Sorry, you’re just not worth it. It’s nothing personal. I’d say this to anyone. I do love you and don't blame you at all. Still, no matter what you do or say, you’re not worth me getting upset or hurt over. You see, like you I have a light that burns within me. It is fueled by my essence. When I’m happy and at peace my light burns brightly. I am strong. My light also radiates to others and it spreads. The strength of my flame is dependent upon my level of joy. It grows stronger the more I love and the more I enjoy. I work hard to grow this flame.
The blockbuster movie Avatar conveyed the heart warming message that we are all connected to each other and to mother Earth. And it seems we are; maybe not in the romantic slash holistic sense I got from the movie, but in a scarily futuristic and cybe aut kind of way. It seems we flew mother Earth’s nest to move in with our lover, the Mac Book.
I asked a group of students what they remembered about their favorite teachers, and they all gave me good answers. âHe was interesting.â âHe controlled his class.â âShe was involved in her studentsâ lives.â âShe loved us and showed us she cared.â âHe was always prepared.â I realized as I read through the studentsâ papers that I could learn from each one, and I could learn from their teachers. One of the students wrote about a teacher I will never forge
At a time when many people are focusing on love I've decided to write about its opposite. No, not hate but fear for when we are out of love we live in fear and as George Addair said, "Everything you've ever wanted is on the other side of fear." This means that in order to achieve what you ...

“Speak well to yourself because your deep mind is always listening” I remember one evening at a boot camp session, when a fellow boot camper working out right beside me managed to slightly vex me, to put it nicely... her self-talk, which she let out for everyone to “enjoy” went on something like this: “O my god, it’s so hard, it’s so hard, it’s so hard, it’s so hard, it’s so hard...”
AT THE END OF YOUR ARM The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your own arm. --Swedish proverbr Every now and again a quote comes to you that is just so obvious but true! There are so many looking for help, looking to others to “fix” them and take responsibility for themr Getting help does start at the end of your arm; it sure did for me. We are entering into a period of time which for many of us is supposed to be “Joyous” and fun no matter what your religion. For many this time of the year has a strong religious component.r

We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey. ~Kenji Miyazawa It is a common tale. My client was upset by the tension at her job. Management changes had everyone nervous – clients and employees. “How can this happen?” “What happens next?” “Why can’t everything just be like it was?” Now here’s the interesting part. She is on the far side of a messy divorce. After more than 30 years of marriage, her husband came home one day and told her he was done, didn’t love her anymore, wanted ‘out’. “How could this happen?” “What happens to me now?”r
Habits often have a bad reputation...but some habits can be helpful and healthy. Stop and think about your talents for a moment. What are you not doing that would help you enjoy your talents more, get more done or be more effective? It might be a practice that worked well for you in the past but that you stopped doing for some reason…or it could be a new activity that you’d like to try. (“Gosh, I just read an article about that guy who writes a song a day. I’d love to do something like that!”). It's possible to turn helpful or healthy practices into new habits.
The history of blog articles on this website provide volumes of information on the benefits of and how to’s of crafting your own personal vision statement. Mindful eating, intuitive eating, and conscious eating are all terms used to describe a way of eating that uses internal cues about hunger, appetite and fullness to guide our relationship with food. Being atuned to and able to listen to our body allows us to know what and when we need to eat. The focus is on learning to eat in a conscious way that helps our body to feel and function well. Dieting, restricting, counting calories or fat grams and focusing on weight are NOT components of mindful eating.
I bet you don’t know this about me, but I’m a math whiz! I love math, and I love numbers. Nothing used to make me happier in school than working algebra problems and differential equations. And, nothing challenged and inspired me more than diligently working ledger cards in my accounting job years ago. I know people thought I had some screws loose but 10 to 1, if you wanted to find me, there I’d be puffing away on my cigarette, calculating away, and in heaven. I’ve often wo
The thing about business lead generation is the fact that this is a very complex job. For this reason, it is possible that you do not have the skills to handle it on your own. But that should not be a problem. As long as you are able to outsource the work to a competent telemarketing company , you will not have any difficulty in getting qualified B2B leads. The trick here lies in choosing the right people for the job. After all, a call center can only be as good as the tele
Some of us seem to attract toxic people like a magnet. Or maybe a better image is of wasps buzzing around a jam pot, and each one packing a nasty, venomous sting they don't mind using. Skewed Perspective No surprise then, that so many toxic people magnets end up with a horribly skewed view of their world and the people in it. Who could blame them, for instance, for believing: - All men are toxic - or - - All women are toxic
What is Luck? The dictionary defines luck as "(chance as bestower of) good or ill fortune, fortuituous events affecting one's interests, person's apparent tendency to be (un)fortunate". "Phew," some of you will sigh with relief..."it's not my fault that I'm unlucky then, its all down to chance!" Well, let’s consider what chance is first.

Have you ever faced disappointment over something that didn’t go the way you planned? Have you ever wanted something so badly but were unable to obtain it? More than likely the answer is “Yes.” Life, along with its great joys, is sometimes filled with moments of disappointment. It is our response to setbacks that determines our ability to overcome them and move forward. A wise person said that life is 10% of what happens to us, and 90% of how we respond to it.

Quite frequently now, I'm having times when I am in complete awe of the power of the Universe. And I just keep saying "Wowww!" When I stay in sync with the big "U", which is more and more often now, and things happen to reinforce all that we are taught, I am reminded of just how simple and ...
Many people, especially women, suffer from self-hatred and don’t even realize it. Self-hatred is probably the main cause of low self-esteem and lack of self confidence. Self-hatred also causes obesity, other eating disorders and health issues. Recognizing Self-Hatredr The first step in overcoming self-hatred is recognizing it. Whenever you think or say a negative thought about yourself, such as “I’m ugly”, “I’m too fat”, “I’m not good enough” or “I couldn’t possibly do [insert dream or goal you want to reach here]”, is actually self-hatred.

Perfectionists are, by definition, painfully hard on themselves. Perfectionism is a state of chronic dissatisfaction that takes a hefty toll -- and the sad fact is that few perfectionists realize what's going on. They see themselves as having 'high standards' and are blind to just how unhappy their 'standards' are making them -- and everyone around them. They can't understand how they can work so diligently and passionately -- and yet rarely feel truly pleased or proud with anything they do. Instead, very few things ever seem 'good enough'...and fewer feel 'good enough' for very long.
I recently spent some time revising my personal vision/mission statement for my career coaching and mentoring practice. While doing this, it occurred to me that the visio I have for my work is closely related to my personal vision. Having a job that reflects my personal vision is powerful because it has allowed me to create a business life for myself that truly reflects who I am. Companies know all about vision and mission statements and getting their employees on board. Vision and mission statements propel the company in the direction that they want, and ultimately towards success.

Goal setting is an essential part of starting a new business. For business owners, the goals that need to be identified should not only include business goals, but personal goals as well. These objectives serve as the guiding light for businesses for them to eventually become successful and income-generating. However, it is not easy for any startup business to gain momentum, especially in terms of finances. Thus, entrepreneurs need to be ready to sacrifice and commit time into growing the company.
How the traditional commercial media treats Internet Talk Radio?- the answer lies in our review of the "The Master Gardener Hour" with Kate Copsey on 1620AM radio in Sandy Springs, GA. The bottom line is "not well". The stations web-site needs a lot of improvement to help radio show hosts like Kate Copsey to be able to monitize her content. It isn't their focus or expertise. Traditional media has stopped focusing on content a long time ago.

The general desire or willingness of someone to do something 3. *My own definition: the art of getting off your butt and getting stuff done Because here is the thing: you may have a burning desire to do something, you may have the best will in the world, you may even know all the reasons why you should do it… but if you haven’t done it yet, don’t be surprised.
