I remember growing up we use to play a game called "tag". I am sure you remember playing this game with the neighborhood kids. One or more kids would count to 10 and then chase other kids to tag them and they would be what we called "it". The kids who were tagged were the next ones to count, ...

Feelings are very underrated. In my book, Unlimited Life: Limiting Beliefs and Belief Busting Power Truths, I discuss how our beliefs define us. I discuss in the book, and in past articles how limiting beliefs prevent us from creating the life that we desire. A question that comes up often is, ...
The legendary Jim Rohn said it the best when it comes to getting promoted , it's not what am I getting from this job it's what am I becoming. First we grow personally and then we advance materially. Creative people, introvert and extrovert alike, tend to be idea-generators. It’s fun; it’s inspiring and motivating to have an abundance of ideas and projects. However, the follow-through can sometimes be lacking, and then inspiration turns into frustration. Here are some tips (with my introvert-perspective): Q. I am a legal secretary, an introvert for the most part. I am ‘burning up’ inside to Do so much. However, with so many ideas I am unable to do anything. Hence I am literally stuck. I would therefore love some guidance. A. You are definitely not alone.
Yes, you can read some career books, take a workshop or two, and network, but that won't make you competitive in today's market. Consider the possibility that maybe it's time to skip your usual frugality, and hire a career coach to teach you shortcuts and help you launch a smarter campaign. The ...
"Celebrate life's events"n n So, I decided to focus on this topic this week because it is my sister's 35th birthday on Wednesday. Tami, Happy Birthday! As we get older, it is easy to push celebrations aside for more "important" things in life. I remember many birthdays over the past ...
As a life and career coach, the number one questio I'm asked by prospective clients is "How long is this going to take?" When I reply, "I don't have a clue, but you do," people get a little freaked out. So, I remind them about each of our roles in creating a life and career they love.
Kids are so great at acknowledging themselves for little wins and small successes. We teach them this at an early age by congratulating them for small steps, first smiles, rolling over and sitting up. In turn they congratulate themselves early and often:r
One of the most common challenges you will face in becoming successful is creating and maintaining motivation. The challenge isn't about wanting to be successful but about overcoming the fears and minor road blocks that get in your way. Every day in both little and big ways you face a constant barrage of challenges. Fears of failure, solutions not working the way they are supposed to, alte ative objectives of collaborators and your own clarity on the correct course of action. All of these issues can add up to a frustrating and overwhelming weight that holds you back and slows you down.
A client read my 2009 Prophecy Letter recently and was perplexed by this statement that I’d made in the letter. “I have really mastered the use of negative experiences to my advantage. I can see more clearly then ever that negativity is awesome! So much good happens when something bad happens. So many new opportunities come out of the chaos and destruction.” He asks, “How can I benefit from my negative experiences. Since my mind focuses on these – maybe I can use them to my advantage?” In the end negativity is very very positive. It is where growth occurs.

Have you ever looked in the mirror to find a very tired woman? This morning, perhaps? Me too. When I looked into the mirror this morning, I found a happy woman with a full life, a great job, wonderful people to share it all with and bags as big as watermelons, under my eyes. It's not that ...
Interesting day today. It’s interesting when you go to a closed 12 step meeting and run in to someone you know from another part of life. I have no conce s about people knowing I’m in recovery. I accepted that I was powerless over a few things fourteen years ago, and that began my ...

When a lot of the news about the economy is anything but positive, many people focus on making sure that there is stability in their lives. In an economic downturn, after all, there is ample stress about keeping the job that a person has - particularly in industries in which there are a number ...
The middle finger is named after Saturn, the mythical god and planet that rules responsibility, structure and integrity. This purpose centres on commitments, both to yourself and with others. You will need to ensure you evaluate contracts carefully before you commit in order to ensure you can fulfill your part. It’s also important to hold others accountable for their commitments to you.
On March 16, 2008, 60 Minutes ran a segment on sleep call The Science of Sleep; it explains what can happen if we don’t get enough. This really made me think. In our lives, we focus on our careers, our families and our many endeavors first. We realize that we put ourselves last. We know we need ...
Yes, many do. Many do not. Performers are, surprisingly often, introverts, because performing provides a perfect platform for an introvert. A performance usually involves a structured situation with behavior that is well-rehearsed; furthermore, we can usually perform without those interruptions that force us to freeze or think too quickly, that we encounter in social situations. Many of us even learned that we could pour out our feelings and enthusiasm with a feeling of safety we never found daily life.
Have you ever thought about this question? Moms go about their lives coordinating the demands of home, school, work, extra-curricular and volunteer activities like a cruise line activity director. We plan meals, naps, play dates, birthday party commitments, and the list goes on. We use our ...

My focus used to be on helping people find fulfilling careers. Like many of us, I assumed that, as soon as we find the “right” career — something we’re passionate about, that pays the bills, that gives us a flexible schedule, or has whatever else we’re looking for in a “dream job” — we’ll get the joy we want out of our work.
“I’m now able to give a talk in public, but I’m still nervous. I guess I won’t ever get over it.” The speaker was a woman in one of my seminars, and the topic was introversion and public speaking. Her assumption was that because she was an introvert, nervousness was always there, ready to undermine her performance and her confidence, and she would never be free of that awful feeling.
I was born in the early 1970s with spina bifida when not much was known about it and life goals for me were rather limited. However, my mother, even then, lived in the thought of possibilities on my behalf, raising me to be the best I could be. It was stressful. She strived to gain all the ...
Redefining Work More support for “The Creative Theory of Recovery” I’ve been privileged to walk this earth for a while, do some great things, travel and work with interesting and progressive people. I’ve also seen far too many talented people what I would call ...
Time and energy bandits are habits and thought processes that can suck you dry, leaving you exhausted and harried. One of these bandits, which particularly rears its head at the holiday season, is perfectionism. Now perfectionism is a wonderful trait – in its place. Some of the places where it is advisable to practice perfectionism include brain surgery (or any kind of surgery), pharmacy, air traffic control, operation of any kind of heavy equipment, including motor vehicles, or any other activity that seriously threatens the health and safety of living things.
It’s that time of year again. Time for the barrage of holiday parties. There are the nice, small intimate gatherings. We like those, right? And then there are the large, “I don’t know anyone here” parties that make us nervous. We check our phones to look like we are doing something, to hide the fact that we wish we could be anywhere but here. Social anxiety. Unless you’re the president of the United States, you have it. Some of us seem to be great at handling it but most of us have it in one way or another.
I can still recall this moment clearly, even though it happened over 20 years ago: I was leaving my first "corporate" job as a statistical programmer to work for a little start-up company (now known as Biogen Idec) as one of only two biostatisticians. It was a big leap in responsibility and skill level for me, and I was moving across country (Northern Califo ia to Cambridge, Massachusetts) to grab this opportunity to grow. Many people at the old job stopped by on my last day to give me their best wishes.
A book entitled, Getting to Yes, appeared several years ago. It focused on the art and science of negotiation, and how to make beneficial compromises as we each pursue our peculiar aims. As used in this article, however, getting to yes implies mastering the steps needed to experience the greatness deeded in your soul. Once you do this, you experience the bliss of an unmuffled yes! As simple as it sounds, to get to yes you must first say YES to yourself and your dreams.
Established businesses are going to find themselves in an interesting position; with some workers staying with the company longer and putting off retirement (those who are over the age of 62), baby boomers (those in their mid-40s to early 60s), members of "Generation X" (those in their late 20s ...
The most consistently neglected part of the weight loss process is the phase of “maintenance.” Without solidifying our ability to maintain, our chances of creating lasting change in our relationship with food or enduring weight loss are slim.
Do you have a to-do list? nnI am not talking about a day-to-day list of tasks that need to be accomplished, although having one can certainly help you be more productive and give you the sense of satisfaction that comes when you can cross something off that list. No, I am referring to a bigger listâa dream list. A âcan you imagineâ or âwhat ifâ list.nnYour big dream list, or Top 101 list, or whatever you want to call it, is the list of things you would like to accom
There has been a time in my life when relationships were a source of great discontentment in my life. I worked around negative people. I didn't have a lot of the kinds of friends I wanted. I was in a marriage that was lonely and filled with conflict. Although today all my relationships are ...
As a life coach, I help clients understand what their true passion in life is, and then help them set their life up so that their passion can exist within the structure of their life. Now, this is not easy, because our life is currently designed to perpetuate the commitments that we've made in the past. Oddly, that's really the hint or the key to getting our passion to fit into our life, as well. It's all about making commitments and making promises.
I just finished creating my goals and intentions for the Second Quarter of 2010. I started by assessing my Q1. In doing so I realized that I wasn’t living my over arching intention for 2010. I have two signs in front of my computer screens… 1. Simplicity 2. My time is valuable In the first quarter I set 74 intentions and goals. Hello!!! That is not simple at all. Didn’t realize this until I went through and checked off what I completed. I only completed 44%. Second thing I realized is that The Drunk Monkey snuck into my goal setting process at the beginning of this year.
I just realized overmyjob isn’t the best Twitter name 4 job hunting. Also I should probably shave & put on a shirt for my Facebook pic, eh?” This was the status of someone in my Facebook network just this week. It confirmed for me that there are people who have not yet fully leveraged web 2.0 ...
We live under the illusion that we must worry or that by worrying we are proving that we care or even possible love someone or something. Worry gives us the ability to feel like we have some involvement in how things turn out while at the same time giving us the right to do nothing about it. ...
Confidence coaching is widely recognised as an amazingly effective method for improving self-confidence, especially for women who lose track of their own goals whilst bringing up children. Often as the children grow and become more independent women reflect on aspirations they dreamt of before ...
Has your 2016 started exactly the way you wanted? If yes then this post is not for you. Has your year begun completely the opposite of the way you pictured? If yes then read on. There is a choice here – BOUNCE back stronger this month or simply sulk and let the remaining months go down the drain. I will not explain the second option much as it more or less involves complaining all day about how nothing is going your way. For the first option you may choose to do the following – B – Be OK about what has happened
This getting your life back together, setting goals and being accountable is serious stuff! That being said, Laughter plays a very important role along the way, and one of the new skills I have picked up is a genuine ability to laugh at myself. I found the following quote and reading a good ...
I have been finding meditation really helpful lately, much more so than in the past. I have tried so many different methods for meditating over the years I couldn’t even count, but I don’t think it’s the technique I’m using right now that’s working so well, but my dedication to it. Part of the problem with me sticking to a meditation routine was that life always seemed to get in the way.
Today, I wanted to give you something special, yet practical that you could use right away to create momentum and positive energy in your life as you step into 2011. In my work with women, one of the essential exercises we do together is peel back the layers of their lives both personally and professionally to explore and discover their gift or what I sometimes refer to as their “genius.” You may be reading this and thinking, “I don’t know what my gift is” or “I don’t have a gift.” You do have a gift. You do have genius inside of you.
Meditation is the art of being still, and centering oneself to communicate with the sacred witness. Many people confuse thinking with the act of meditation. Yes, one gets quiet, and one does hear the thoughts of the mind, but that is not meditation. The mind would really like to control you, ...
Depending upon one’s dexterity, there are many yoga postures which are considered to be beyond our current physical capacity like the sitting position of Full Lotus or the flexibility and strength required in the yogic posture of Pincha Mayurasana - Forearm Stand. Aside from yoga, if I asked ...
Every Action Equals an Opposite Reaction in Life Training A remarkable quote etched unto our memories is by Edmund Burk. He said ... âthe only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.'' Gen. George S. Patton said ..."Don't fall a victim to what I call the 'ready-aim-aim-aim-aim syndrome.' You must be willing to fire. He was talking about action! Thatâs what separates winners from whiners. Take action and be responsible for the implications of t
Once upon a time, my goal was to lead a life that was completely criticism-proof. Once I had the “right” job, credentials, relationship, and so on, no one would ever accuse me of falling short in any area. I’d get nothing but respect from everyone I worked with and knew. Of course, this plan didn’t quite pan out. As wonderful as my job and education may have looked to the world, and as hard as I worked, there would always be someone who’d come up with ways to find fault with me — whether it was a client, boss, intimate partner, or someone else.
I was raised in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood and attended Hebrew school, became a Bat Mitzvah and continued on to complete Confirmation. I was very active in my Temple community as a member of the youth program and even became a Para-professional. Which meant I assisted the Special Education Hebrew teacher during the school year.
Are you among those who are Henny Pennying? Remember? Henny Penny, the ditsychicken who ran around the farmyard hollering, “The sky is falling, the sky is falling!” in the story we heard as little kids. To many of you, especially during the last few weeks of record setting market trends, ...
To help us find a compelling direction in life, self-development writers often tell us to ask ourselves “what we’d do if we couldn’t fail.” For example, we might ask, what kind of book would we write if we knew that whatever we produced was destined to be a #1 bestseller? I’ve taken to asking myself basically the opposite question: what would I create if I knew no one would ever care about it? In other words, what would I do if I knew I would fail? Believe it or not, this question has been much more helpful to me in finding the direction and motivatio I want.
How often have we lost our focus, allowed others and circumstances to erode our confidence, lost our authentic voice in the midst of pleasing others, delayed pursuing our passion, and feel stuck in less that joyful lives? As women, we tend to push our dreams aside risking frustration, anger and ...
