Build relationships and teams by giving value to your interactio This is the last of a series of articles on handling criticism constructively and without stress. Evaluating other people is something you will do all of your life, both formally, as a teacher, parent, or manager, and informally, as in personal relationships with your peers. Giving feedback to others is a skill that is really worth learning. It will make you more effective and powerful in all your relationships, particularly if you recognize that feedback isn’t always negative.

Sunday morning, the church was packed and the pastor was on a roll. All eyes were locked into that “don’t want to miss this” stare as they watched him pace from side to side in front of the congregation. It wasn’t unlike most other worship services until he announced, “Someone has been stealing ...
I spend a lot of time making decisions. I suspect you do too. You know how it goes: you analyze the pros and cons (and you're so good at seeing both sides of every argument, your pros and cons come out dead even). You ask yourself whether each choice is aligned with your values (you ARE aware of ...
A weekend just past and the first client of day completed, and my head turns to a technique known as mirroring. Funny, as I work with clients to bring out the talent within them, I find myself asking questions that I am, in part, asking of myself. It is true that we see ourselves in others. In ...
Any successful businessperson will tell you she has taken a risk even when those around her may have advised against it. Oprah Winfrey is a risk taker. When she moved from Baltimore to Chicago, she took a huge risk. More importantly, she believed enough in her talents, skills and abilities to ...
Confident people know when to be afraid; they then take action – to run away from the saber-toothed tiger, leave the burning building, or whatever. Unconfident, or socially anxious, people, on the other hand, are wracked by numerous anxieties over what are called “paper tigers”: fears about how they are perceived. If they speak or act, are others silently (or not so silently) going to criticize them? Do they appear foolish, awkward, unstylish…? The list goes on and on.
Take a close look at your life. Who would you say is managing your life, calling all the shots? When you were younger, your parents made both the simple and grand decisions affecting your life. You were OK with this until about the age of 5 when you decided it was time to call the shots. Your ...

With the proliferation of executive and life coaches and the coaching industry in general, I often wonder when it all started - the concept of coaching. There sure are a lot of coaches out there. What criteria should clients use when evaluating a coach’s ability to help them attain the life they ...
Stress is something that comes with everyday life. It's not something that we can eliminate completely or need to avoid at all costs, but there are ways to manage stress so that it doesn't consume you. The holidays are almost upon us and even though it's a happy time we all know that it's also a stressful time. Maybe I can help you get through the holiday season with a little less stress. Stress when left out of control can cause significant anxiety or depression, as well as
My youngest sister once told me (very insightfully)” “Face it, Jo; you’re not happy unless you have something to worry about. Once one worry is resolved, you just find something else to worry about.” She was absolutely right; I had to laugh at her observation. However it took someone else to point this out to me before I realized how much I let worry consume me. It was my habitual response to the unknown. I also realized that I did not want to maintain this habit anymore.
It takes hard work to be a confident woman, but the rewards are well worth the effort it takes. Imagine being able to go through your day feeling good about who you are and the decisions you make. Picture yourself laughing at your mistakes instead of beating yourself up. When someone offers ...
I hear all the time from wellness professionals (who seem to be the epitome of perfectionists) who say they don't blog. When I ask them why, I hear the same thing over and over again. Let's see if any of these reasons hit home for you. 1 - I don't blog because I don't know what to say First, I have to say I don't believe that. But if it really IS true, then think of it this way: When you talk to someone, what topic, related to what you do for a living, could you talk on and on and on about? What topics just light you up, that you feel a passion about?
Many people still do not know what a life coach does or even what life coaching is. To answer that question, let's ask another question. What can you and your life coach work on? The simple answer is, just about anything. A life coach is not usually an expert in a specific field. Life coaches ...
What Does Success Mean to You? O.G. nnSuccess is subjective. One manâs failure may be anotherâs success. If you accumulate wealth at the expense of your health, are you successful? If you are materially poor but intellectually and physically rich, are you successful?n nWhat does success mean for you? Until you ask yourself this question and establish an answer, you will never find contentment. If you are oblivious to your destination, how will you know when you have arriv
You know will power – that elusive stuff that other people seem to have, but you don’t? Or maybe you had a lot of it on January 1, excited by visions of a new you, but somehow the visions have gotten dimmer as the weeks have gone by. The parking lot at the fitness center was so crowded on New Year’s Day that new members circled endlessly, watching for someone to leave. (The veterans knew, grudgingly, to come early.) Soon there will be ample parking once again for the dedicated few who seem to keep going day after day, year after year, without succumbing to what I call the February Fade.
Whether economic times are abundant or tight, it's always an advantage to be a savvy consumer. And whether or not your budget is abundant or tight, it's always beneficial to know how to shop effectively. I remember reading The Millionaire Next Door and was surprised to find that a common trait ...
We hear a lot in personal development circles about how it’s important to “play to our strengths,” instead of wasting time trying to improve our “weak” areas. I want to rethink that notion a bit in this post. It’s probably true that we all have our natural aptitudes. It’s hard to dispute, for example, that some people are born with body types that make them better athletes. But sometimes, when we see ourselves as “bad” at some activity, it’s simply because we don’t like the way we feel when we’re doing it — not because of any inbo lack of talent. The Making Of A “Weak Point”
As an Inspired Action life coach, my job is to support my clients in living a life of happiness, joy, peace, and most importantly, bliss. The dictionary defines bliss as supreme happiness. Most people don't have an experience with bliss. Most people don't know what bliss even is. It is that state of loving life so deeply, so turned on, so much amazement about life, that you can hardly stand it. You are nearly brought to tears of joy in the moment, as you recognize how amazing your experience of life is. Bliss is what happens when you follow the inspired action life coaching process.
This September I spent two days doing resume assessment at the National Job Fair and Training Expo in Toronto. 400 job seekers received free resume assessments from nine resume writers. There was a 2-3 hour wait for this service that was available from 10 am - 8 pm. Since a resume is critical ...
"Is your success because of your system or inspite of it?" This is a questio I ask people each and everyday. Some don't mind the question being asked where as others absolutely loathe having to answer it. Success or lack of it can come about for a variety of reasons. Some good and some not so good. The most important aspect is that your success has come about because of what you have planned, what you have followed through on and what you are committed to. You have made your success happen and have not had it handed tor
Excerpt from the eBook Serendipity Jane’s Guide to Life Coaching Do you ever ask yourself questions like these? • “How can I improve my standard of living?”n • “How can I stick to a diet?”n • “How can I fully take charge of my life?” These are just some of the most common questions people have asked me. To answer them I ask a question in return, namely, “Would you prefer to find the answers to such questions alone or would you welcome the help of a life coach?” Often just the

We often hear someone say they're "happy and fulfilled" at a new job, with a new living situation, even as a new parent. And they surely are, or believe themselves to be, happy and fulfilled. But I wonder sometimes what we mean by these terms. Let's start with happy. Most people use the word ...

Have you ever heard the words “Fake it ‘til you make it?” If you appreciate the fact that life is what we make it and that our thoughts and feelings show our reality and also the results in our lives then you are on the way towards studying the best way to be a life coach. At the age of 45 I was forty pounds overweight, stuck in a sedentary, dead-end job and inside a relationship with a man who not only didn’t want to marry me but I was always fearful he would leave me all a
This morning I had a bit of a hiccup with my first grader. As she inspected the lunch that I had made for her, she announced that she no longer likes the vegetarian chicken nuggets that have been the main staple of her diet, for the last 4 years. I calmly told her that, after all, she has ...
Life is just one big smorgasbord with all kinds of wonderful temptations to fill your time. Just like the “all you can eat buffet”, if you don’t pick and choose which commitments you make, you’ll find your plate overloaded and yourself feeling unwell. Life balance comes from not only setting ...
Introverts need time alone. Note that I stated, “need,” not “want.” It’s really necessary for us to function at our best. Yet, so many of us struggle with finding (or perhaps allowing ourselves) that needed time alone. Why do we find this so difficult? I believe there are many possible reasons. ...
This is my summary of the philosophy behind consciousness coaching: "Consciousness, the observer, is our True Self. Being fully present to our highest aspirations and greatest dreams as human beings, we can take action and have impact on the reality around us, independent of our thinking and feeling, simply because we are committed to it. It may not feel right, our thinking may rebel against it and our ego may resist, but we can do it because we are committed to it.

Most of the jobs that are in the workforce require that employees have good to excellent communication skills. This allows employees the chance to express themselves in a manner that is clear and positive in written and oral communications. Communication is considered to be one of the main factors that are needed to be successful in the corporate world. However, 'good communication skills' is a phrase that is used so often that many employees are not quite sure what it means
I have a passion and that is hope! Hope is an expectation of something desired and the thing that gives or object of this feeling. Since 911, hope has been much in demand but low on supply because, that which one placed their hope in prior to 911 has disappointed them. Some of these things include people and our religi
Kill the Messenger Why were some of the greatest people in history killed? Jesus, Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Mohammed’s life was threatened for years. Everyone can see, no matter what your beliefs may be, that all of these people were amazing human beings, so what did they do that was so wrong to deserve to get killed? They dared to be different, they went against the establishment, they were considered to be too dangerous to let walk around this planet.
Depression, anxiety, relationship problems, divorce, self awareness and self esteem can all be helped by walking the Native American Circle or commonly referred to as the Medicine Wheel. This wheel of the Native American way of life or religion can cure our disjointed, selfish, chaotic ways. ...
Using a Life Coach for Addiction Recovery A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and deadline behind it. As I went through a major process to determine what I wanted to focus on for the rest of my life, the answer finally came to me: Helping others. Specifically, coaching ...
Do you believe you can have anything you desire? Some people do, and they seem to have a knack for going after what they want and getting it. They appear to have some secret that whatever they touch turns to gold. While others struggle with achieving their desires and seem to meet with ...
As a part of each day, I start with the “Serenity Prayer” to get a focus for the day. This has become an ingrained daily habit, but as can happen, sometimes we don’t pay attention to things we do so frequently. Today, from Hazelden, I received a great reminder, and it was ...
We have seen many people who sleep more (I am also one of them). We all sleep because we need it, itâs a necessity and without it our working life will get affected in a way that it will be impossible to deal with. rnLetâs start with a simple example, at Reed Army Institute; some cadets were allowed to sleep in advance for a few weeks. And after that there timings were decreased, but even after the decrease in timings they did not suffer that much as those who did not sle
I’ve read a bunch of discussions in books and blogs recently on how to be “authentic” in marketing your goods and services—and, in some cases, whether authentic marketing is even possible—and I have some thoughts to contribute. I’ll offer a simple, but powerful, question to ask when you’re working on selling your stuff to guide you toward feeling more aligned with yourself as you do it. My sense is that, when we say we want to do “authentic marketing,” we mean more than simply _not lying_.
That’s not a typo in the title. I’m asking you to pause for a minute or more (given how much we introverts like to reflect), and ask yourself: ”Who am I not?” Make a list of 10-20 attributes and/or personality traits that are not you. For example, I told myself for many years (and still do) that I am not an athlete or athletic, as I have been overweight and slow my entire life (also a little clumsy). Look over your list. You have just identified your perceived limitations.
Life training in Perth as a career option might seem to be an excessively unfathomable skilled choice for a few. The up to date global that is changing by means of leaps and boundaries is but to totally consider the hassle of the thoughts and psychological illnesses steadily affecting folks worse than contagious sicknesses. Lifestyles training is incessantly perplexed or misrepresented to be a trade which grows by means of thriving on less fortunate souls, who aren't much lea
In my previous article, I talked about the difference between feedback and criticism, and how we can handle our own inner voices more constructively. But what about those outer voices? That’s the topic of this article. Into each life a little rain must fall. Into each life a little – or sometimes a lot – of criticism will intrude. Getting criticism from others isn’t fun, even when we know it will help us improve our performance. Sometimes it doesn’t; sometimes we become so rattled that our performance deteriorates.
For some hiring managers, an economic downtu can be an exciting time: there's a greater applicant pool, more interest in the positions offered and a greater number of resumes making it into their in boxes. However, this can be a bit overwhelming – especially because it's still essential to ...
Ever had a problem in life? It feels like you are dancing on fire, doesn’t it? A problem is a problem – small or big does not matter. A problem results in unpleasantness in life. It comes in way of our joy. For those who have multiple problems; unpleasantness seems to become a way of life. However some of us deal with problems rather well and experience joy and happiness despite these problems.
