We often hear someone say they're "happy and fulfilled" at a new job, with a new living situation, even as a new parent. And they surely are, or believe themselves to be, happy and fulfilled. But I wonder sometimes what we mean by these terms. Let's start with happy. Most people use the word ...

Live A New Life Story™ Of Wellness Mentoring Life Story Changes Why Is Change So Difficult? In studies of coronary bypass patients, when their lives are at risk unless they adopt healthier lifestyles, how many do you think change their habits? Only one in nine. Changing behavior is difficult. ...
Have you ever heard the words “Fake it ‘til you make it?” If you appreciate the fact that life is what we make it and that our thoughts and feelings show our reality and also the results in our lives then you are on the way towards studying the best way to be a life coach. At the age of 45 I was forty pounds overweight, stuck in a sedentary, dead-end job and inside a relationship with a man who not only didn’t want to marry me but I was always fearful he would leave me all a
This morning I had a bit of a hiccup with my first grader. As she inspected the lunch that I had made for her, she announced that she no longer likes the vegetarian chicken nuggets that have been the main staple of her diet, for the last 4 years. I calmly told her that, after all, she has ...
Life is just one big smorgasbord with all kinds of wonderful temptations to fill your time. Just like the “all you can eat buffet”, if you don’t pick and choose which commitments you make, you’ll find your plate overloaded and yourself feeling unwell. Life balance comes from not only setting ...
Introverts need time alone. Note that I stated, “need,” not “want.” It’s really necessary for us to function at our best. Yet, so many of us struggle with finding (or perhaps allowing ourselves) that needed time alone. Why do we find this so difficult? I believe there are many possible reasons. ...
This is my summary of the philosophy behind consciousness coaching: "Consciousness, the observer, is our True Self. Being fully present to our highest aspirations and greatest dreams as human beings, we can take action and have impact on the reality around us, independent of our thinking and feeling, simply because we are committed to it. It may not feel right, our thinking may rebel against it and our ego may resist, but we can do it because we are committed to it.

Most of the jobs that are in the workforce require that employees have good to excellent communication skills. This allows employees the chance to express themselves in a manner that is clear and positive in written and oral communications. Communication is considered to be one of the main factors that are needed to be successful in the corporate world. However, 'good communication skills' is a phrase that is used so often that many employees are not quite sure what it means
I have a passion and that is hope! Hope is an expectation of something desired and the thing that gives or object of this feeling. Since 911, hope has been much in demand but low on supply because, that which one placed their hope in prior to 911 has disappointed them. Some of these things include people and our religi
Kill the Messenger Why were some of the greatest people in history killed? Jesus, Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Mohammed’s life was threatened for years. Everyone can see, no matter what your beliefs may be, that all of these people were amazing human beings, so what did they do that was so wrong to deserve to get killed? They dared to be different, they went against the establishment, they were considered to be too dangerous to let walk around this planet.
Depression, anxiety, relationship problems, divorce, self awareness and self esteem can all be helped by walking the Native American Circle or commonly referred to as the Medicine Wheel. This wheel of the Native American way of life or religion can cure our disjointed, selfish, chaotic ways. ...
Using a Life Coach for Addiction Recovery A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and deadline behind it. As I went through a major process to determine what I wanted to focus on for the rest of my life, the answer finally came to me: Helping others. Specifically, coaching ...
Do you believe you can have anything you desire? Some people do, and they seem to have a knack for going after what they want and getting it. They appear to have some secret that whatever they touch turns to gold. While others struggle with achieving their desires and seem to meet with ...
As a part of each day, I start with the “Serenity Prayer” to get a focus for the day. This has become an ingrained daily habit, but as can happen, sometimes we don’t pay attention to things we do so frequently. Today, from Hazelden, I received a great reminder, and it was ...
We have seen many people who sleep more (I am also one of them). We all sleep because we need it, itâs a necessity and without it our working life will get affected in a way that it will be impossible to deal with. rnLetâs start with a simple example, at Reed Army Institute; some cadets were allowed to sleep in advance for a few weeks. And after that there timings were decreased, but even after the decrease in timings they did not suffer that much as those who did not sle
I’ve read a bunch of discussions in books and blogs recently on how to be “authentic” in marketing your goods and services—and, in some cases, whether authentic marketing is even possible—and I have some thoughts to contribute. I’ll offer a simple, but powerful, question to ask when you’re working on selling your stuff to guide you toward feeling more aligned with yourself as you do it. My sense is that, when we say we want to do “authentic marketing,” we mean more than simply _not lying_.
That’s not a typo in the title. I’m asking you to pause for a minute or more (given how much we introverts like to reflect), and ask yourself: ”Who am I not?” Make a list of 10-20 attributes and/or personality traits that are not you. For example, I told myself for many years (and still do) that I am not an athlete or athletic, as I have been overweight and slow my entire life (also a little clumsy). Look over your list. You have just identified your perceived limitations.
Life training in Perth as a career option might seem to be an excessively unfathomable skilled choice for a few. The up to date global that is changing by means of leaps and boundaries is but to totally consider the hassle of the thoughts and psychological illnesses steadily affecting folks worse than contagious sicknesses. Lifestyles training is incessantly perplexed or misrepresented to be a trade which grows by means of thriving on less fortunate souls, who aren't much lea
In my previous article, I talked about the difference between feedback and criticism, and how we can handle our own inner voices more constructively. But what about those outer voices? That’s the topic of this article. Into each life a little rain must fall. Into each life a little – or sometimes a lot – of criticism will intrude. Getting criticism from others isn’t fun, even when we know it will help us improve our performance. Sometimes it doesn’t; sometimes we become so rattled that our performance deteriorates.
For some hiring managers, an economic downtu can be an exciting time: there's a greater applicant pool, more interest in the positions offered and a greater number of resumes making it into their in boxes. However, this can be a bit overwhelming – especially because it's still essential to ...
Ever had a problem in life? It feels like you are dancing on fire, doesn’t it? A problem is a problem – small or big does not matter. A problem results in unpleasantness in life. It comes in way of our joy. For those who have multiple problems; unpleasantness seems to become a way of life. However some of us deal with problems rather well and experience joy and happiness despite these problems.

The sky is blue and the grass is green and the beer patios are calling you. But wait - you’re stuck at your computer. You have a serious deadline to meet. Or worse - perhaps you have to clean the windows, or put the kid’s hockey equipment in storage.nAnd as if it couldn’t get worse, what is really annoying is this: you could have done this last week, when it was cold and rainy BUT YOU PROCRASTINATED!! Sound familiar? Read on if you want to learn a few tricks
Perfectionists have impossibly high standards. And impossibly high standards make things impossible, setting up a never ending cycle of procrastination, overwhelm and discouragement. With finances, it usually starts with some “expert” advice. For instance, financial experts say that we should save 20-40% of our income. They will tell us how much to budget for a clothing allowance. They’ll give us a surefire way to pay off our debt. Now, these are all great goals. They look great on paper, and they work well for some people.
Have you, along with the other several million people, been watching Oprah? Not the show – the woman? Something has happened to Oprah in the last few years. She has gotten bigger – not her body, but her spirit. And along with her incredible spirit, she has truly embraced her social responsibility as a woman with considerable power to shape modern culture. I used to think Oprah was merely remarkable, now I find her remarkable and inspirational!nnI want to take a cl

As I was listening to an audio speech by Chris Weidner I became aware of a problem. Sometimes we feel that we've beat a subject to death. As leaders we feel we've stated the need, the change, the information to everyone and everywhere. Because we've stated the intention over and over again we ...
I meet people all the time who don’t really understand virtual learning, and are therefore wary of signing up for anything that is presented in this way. What a shame; there is so much expertise out there that you can access once you become familiar with this increasingly popular method of supplying information. Don’t let that wariness keep you from easily participating in events that can transform your life. It’s a dream-come-true for busy people who yearn for information to make their lives better and easier, but who don’t have time to seek out and attend the live events.
I received this question from a client… “I was in bed thinking about my 5-year-old and the problems he is having with interpersonal relationships at school and a little bit with his nanny. He seems to talk back and he can be a tyrant. Also he is not quite a big follower of authority. I know sometimes he says to me you don’t think I am smart, so obviously this is in his mind.
What is the impact of your presence? Your personal presence has everything to do with what the world presents back to you â with how people respond to you. And it has everything to do with you how you think and feel about yourself. My whippet, Ollie is one of my greatest teachers. She has taught me much over the years. One of the lessons I have learned from Ollie is about the Power of Presence. Ollie has a powerful presence. At the same time she is gentle and playful, even
Businesses these days are in a unique position in which there are four generations in the workplace. First, there are those who have been working for years and who, in better economic times, would be close to retiring. Then there are the Baby Boomers who are approaching retirement and, in many cases, caring for aging parents and working with their adult children to pay off student loans. There are also the Gen-Xers (30-somethings, mostly) and members of Generation Y. Each of these generations is going to be impacted by the economic recession.
The stress response in our bodies might be thought of, from one point of view, as the result of a combat between two opposing parts of the nervous system. The sympathetic division, triggered in response to a perceived threat, is responsible for the increased heart rate, higher blood pressure, faster breathing and general inner turmoil of the stress response. Its opposite, the parasympathetic division, triggers a lower heart rate, improved digestion, muscular relaxation, and a sense of serenity.
Here’s the scenario. Through the course of a day you just can’t get into it. You labour through the day. You get a bit of stuff done but the feeling you have as you come towards the end of it is that life sucks a little bit. You are not all doom and gloom but you do feel pretty average, pretty overwhelmed and pretty much like you had a very uninspiring and unproductive day. Before you fall asleep, you just hope that tomorrow is going to be better. In fact, not just better, but bucket-loads better. And then tomorrow comes and…
What makes you happiest, giving a gift that is received with excitement and real emotion or receiving a gift with excitement and real emotion? I find that a tough question because both make me happy. During this season, the most popular gift giving and receiving time of the year, I must say ...
Are you letting others blow out your flame? How can you keep it lit. Here are some tips. Last month I poured my heart out to anyone who would listen, saying how important it is that I don’t let my candle burn out (last month's article below). The candle I’m referring to is my life force – the energy that sustains me, that IS me. No matter how much I care, no one and nothing is worth getting upset over. The many responses I received showed that the message was well received, and that my readers learned from the example.
If you are a mom, more than likely you know the feeling of having a full schedule. Rushing around, taking a kid to soccer, another to dance class, rush to pick up the dry cleaning and then running home to get cookies baked for the youngest child’s snack day. As moms we have full schedules, ...

Executives are normal people and they need coaching too. The leaders in each organization who have proven over time that they can do a lot for the company can get bogged down. Those ideas that seemed so revolutionary before can become a thing of the past. The truth is that anyone can reach a point in their lives where they might have stagnated and they need a boost to get them back up. And like anyone else, executives need someone there to help them get back on track – that someone is a coach.r
Write here. Write now. nnnnThe art of writing is the art of applying the seat of the pants to the seat of the chair. - Mary Heaton VorsennnA few years ago I met Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling. The Power and Authority of choice was given to man directly by God. According to Genesis 2:16: "Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for if you eat of it you will surely die." We know all ...
"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - Anonymous Quite a statement, isn’t it? However, I have to say that I don’t totally agree with it. I don’t think we have to completely get rid of the life we have planned. I believe ...

(Last week I discussed the reasons for taking a risk, and the preparation for doing so. This week’s article continues with planned steps to gain the most from taking the risk, while minimizing the stress.) General George Patton once said,“Take calculated risks; that is quite different from being rash.”
