It’s an age old parenting question, but one which still causes a huge amount of debate: should you give your child pocket money for doing chores? The best answer I can give you is, ‘sometimes’. One obvious reason for linking the two is to encourage a work ethic. Giving pocket money for chores teaches a simple lesson: if you do the work, you get paid. If not, you don’t. Since children in the UK can only take on part time work at the age of 13 (except for certain ‘performance’ related jobs), pocket money provides a good way to teach this lesson at an early age.

Jim Rohn is one of the true greats in the motivational field. Let's look at one little quote of his right now: "What we ponder, and what we think about, sets the course of our life. Any day we wish, we can discipline ourselves to change it all. Any day we wish, we can open a book that will open our mind to new knowledge. Any day we wish, we can start a new activity. Any day we wish, we can start the process of life change.

Procrastination is something that creates a lot of havoc in people's lives. Most people know exactly what they need to do for success. The path to achievement in any endeavor is already paved. What separates those who achieve what they desire versus those who fail to do so is the action taken. Successful individuals do the things that creates successful outcomes. This is true whether one is referring to careers, athletics, relationships, or personal development. Success simpl
The secret to dealing with difficult people is to take the necessary action before they become difficult. Like everything else in life, if you deal with something before it becomes a problem, you’ll never have any major problems to deal with. The problem is, of course, that in the ordinary course of our everyday lives, we don’t do the small things that we know we should do, we don’t today what we can put off until tomorrow and, most importantly, we tolerate behaviour that we shouldn’t.
Having just completed another 'Client-Only' Advanced Workshop, I continue to get the impression that there is a gap between intellectually grasping and understanding the very simple and scientifically proven concepts on which my workshops, books and websites are based, on the one hand and actually putting the simple and practical actions into place, on the other. And that gap between understanding and doing is down to experience.
How are you going to be up to the not-too-onerous task of getting the very best out of life if you are mentally unfit? Unfortunately, many years of research confirms that the normal mind is not just unfit for effortless living, it has been living on a diet of clapped-out old movies (from your childhood) all of your adult life. It’s the ultimate couch potato. And, if, for all of your adult life, you had sat like a lazy slob on a couch, would you really expect to be able to spring from your couch, put on your trainers and go out for even a light jog?
Thousands of professional women today are discovering a startling and deeply disturbing truth – that their professional lives are no longer working. Often this realization hits a woman smack between the eyes in midlife, and is experienced as a full-blown crisis. In fact, there are 12 common ...
Should murderers and rapists be shown mercy? Should people who commit lesser sins or crimes be shown mercy? Or should people simply be punished for their crimes and be kept away from the victims? We often read in the media about victims of crime or their families that refuse to even think about forgiving the criminals. When a Scottish backpacker was murdered, a relative was quoted as saying that “she will never succumb to pressure to forgive the killer”.
“Success and failure. We think of them as opposites, but they’re really not. They’re companions – the hero and the sidekick.” -Laurence Shames ______ One of the most powerful personal programming activities you can engage in is positive self-talk. Be your own cheerleader and talk to yourself positively all of the time. Think About Your Dreams
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could flick a switch to change your life? What if you could simply press a button to achieve your hopes and goals? Well, if you look around the internet a little – not much searching required, you will find personal development websites that suggest that changing your life can be just that easy. Naturally, there’s no such thing as a quick fix when it comes to living the dream – otherwise everybody would be doing it.
I have yet to meet someone who does not want to change something about his or her life – no one is 100% happy with themselves or their lives. Whether they’re seeking that illusory goal of ‘financial freedom’ or the utopia of the ‘perfect job’ (there’s no such thing, by the way), or they’re fed up with the way they look, or what they weigh – there’s always something that we all want to change about our lives. The bizarre thing is that, even though most people are aching to change their lives, the vast majority of people are change-averse – or even suffer from a full-blown fear of change.
I recently received an email from a jou alist in the US asking me what I knew about people gaining an online certification for life coaching. And a few weeks back, one of my clients mentioned to me that he'd been approached by a life coach who had "qualified" following a weekend course and some follow-up telephone tutorials. At least, I suppose, that was better than being certified online! But the one that really sticks out in my mind is the time a client told me that he'd received a pitch from a life coach who was twenty five years old.
Have you heard of PSTec? It's a percussive tapping technique that is supposed to help overcome obstacles and clear the mind of whatever challenges you are facing. It is amazing. If you have any challenges that make you feel overwhelmed, helpless, or emotional, you should definitely use the PSTec click tracks. Everyone can afford them; the Basic Audios are completely FREE and do the job just fine! And the products that do cost start at $10.00 I’ve done EFT since 2007, and lo
“When I try to do the work, to approach a task or push through my procrastination, a battle ensues in my mind. I wind up feeling so intimidated that I take a seat and let the battle go on. I get so distracted that I’m paralyzed and I don’t get done whatever I wanted to do. It’s limiting – it limits my ability to set goals and to dream of new things in my life. It tears me down and I feel like I have no control – that my life is out of my control.

In my 25 years as a healthcare practitioner, I’ve come to notice an important trend in the way that most people view themselves and their health. Our current medical mindset is fixated on treatment. When I say “our” mindset, I don’t just mean that of the professionals ...
I want you to visualize a big 747 plane—big jumbo jet with whatever colors and emblems you want. As big and complex as a 747 is, the success of its operation relies in great part on a few small things. Things like tires for example—at least small in relation to the size and cost of the whole plane.
Within is the person we really are. Within lies our very existence. And only from within can we make it happen. This is where our very all subsists. Within you is the ability, the “what it takes” to make it all happen for you, just the way you want it. WITHIN! WITHIN!! WITHIN!!! Oh what a place! ...Within is the person we really are. Feeling in balance and relaxed in the high-stress, fast-paced life of our contemporary western world, may be a challenge for some, and have others simply thinking there is no time for themselves. One of the best things you can do is to cultivate the art of letting go and learning to give yourself “me time.” Learning to relax and take time for self is something many in the western world simply overlook or do not see as important.
This posting is about forgiveness. I don’t know about you, but most of the time when I have seen forgiveness addressed it involves the actions of two or more persons. This posting will take a more focused view where it mainly involves action of a single person. Part of improving oneself leads to becoming powerful. Part of how power is used is improving your quality of life and the life of those around you. Let’s talk about the relationship between power and forgiveness.
These Meditation FAQ's Can Be Used As A Self Check For Your Meditation Practice or If You Are Thinking About Meditating As A Beginner. What is meditation?
Do you remember the very first few moments of your morning immediately after you awoke? I do. The reason I remember those moments is because I have trained my mind to pay attention to the details of life. I now notice the smiles on the faces, the sparkle of enthusiasm and hope in the eyes and the words that are spoken
Many people walk through life making career, relationship, and other life decisions in response or in reaction to others around them. This is an extremely toxic way of living because these people will never live based on their own life designs. If you never realize that you are following this pattern, it is possible that you will live the majority of your life at the mercy of othersânever really doing what you want to do, and possibly never even knowing what it is you actua
The word ‘focus’ is often used in the context of success. We’re told, for example, that highly successful people are better focused than the rest of us. We hear stories about athletes or sports people who are totally focused. Surely, if either you or I could get some of this focus, at the very least, our lives would be the better for it. We might not end up being world-beaters – we may not even want to be world-beaters – but a little focus, a bit more success and a lot of happiness wouldn’t go astray!! So, what is focus? What does being focused mean? How can I focus my mind?
When you invest in your personal development you take responsibility for your life, your circumstances and your happiness. You become the agent, the doer, and the affecter. If, on the other hand, you sit back and don’t make the effort to take charge of your life you set yourself up for events ...
Telling the Truth is a Loving Act rn rnThe tendency in most organizationsâwhether large companies, government departments or even family unitsâis not to rock the boat and refrain from telling telling our truth. For a variety of reasons, we hold back from saying what's true for us. We may fear being ostracized, held up for promotion, ridiculed or even fired. But that's not the way to greatness; that's the way to mediocrity or even failure. To grow, we have to tell the trut
One of the greatest things about being involved in and around a motivational and sales training business that's oriented around The NEW Think and Grow Rich is all the actualization that comes, in addition to our prime target. For instance, when I go into an enterprise, my target may be to increase productivity, to increase sales. That's what we're normally focus on. And I'll tell you, there are so many different nuances, so many different manners of thinking that you need to get into the subconscious mind-and so it's a real jazz doing it.
I spent some time with a client last week who talked of his fears for the state of his business, how he was afraid of what others would think of him if his business collapsed and how he was afraid of where is marriage was going as a result. Although he believed his problems to be unique, the conversation reminded me of many that I have had over the recent past. It reminded me of the proliferation of media commentaries at present that “markets are gripped by fear”, people are “fearful for their jobs” and that people are “afraid they will lose their homes”. All these problems ar
We all want more out of life. Some of us want to change our lives radically – some of us have things about ourselves that we want to change. But, unfortunately, for most of us, life keeps getting in the way! The stress of everyday life – yes, millions of people are suffering from stress and national health services worldwide are leaking money trying to cope with the related health problems – stop us in our tracks.
According to Wikipedia, “Electronic commerce, commonly known as e-commerce or eCommerce, consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. Modern electronic commerce typically uses the World Wide Web at least at some point in the transaction's lifecycle, although it can encompass a wider range of technologies such as email as well.” Almost everyone in business these days conducts eCommerce to one level or another. Even professionals like dentists, lawyers and accountants.
The word Reiki is said to mean ‘Universal Life Force Energy’. The term was coined and developed as a healing modality in the early 1900’s by Mikao Usui, a Japanese metaphysician. Usui had spent many years questing for peace and harmony and during a long fasting and meditation retreat he experienced a moment of epiphany. He realized that not only does everyone have within them the ability to find peace, happiness and health, but he also came to understand the keys that would help others realize this truth for themselves.
Lots of people don’t like where they’re at in their lives. Some regret their missed chances – my grandmother used to repeatedly tell me that she wished that she was 18 again! The male “mid-life crisis” sees many such disillusioned people trying to re-find their youth – often with the help of a youthful mate! Over two-thirds of people believe that they don’t like the job they’re doing – most say that they do it for the money. Others are in – and prepared to stay in – unhappy, dysfunctional or even violent relationships. Many people’s “nows” are not all they sh
I know, I bet you that you think the title of this article is the wrong way around - but, unfortunately, that's how the vast majority of so-called "normal" people approach their daily routine. A recent survey of US employees by Gallup found that 74% of people don't like their work or workplace - and are either "sleep-walking" through their day or are actively engaged in trying to make the remaining 26% dissatisfied too! If you start each working day with the useless thought that you don't like your work or workplace, you've already made that day's work so much harder.
Whether you call them challenges, opportunities or big hairy problems, the only people without them are in the graveyard. Someone once said don’t wish for smaller problems, wish you were better. The fact that you have problems at all are signs of growth, progress and movement. Once we set a goal it is often only then that a problem shows up. Without the aspiration or goal the issue wouldn’t appear on our radar. Outlined below is a simple 5 step formula for Powering through any Problem.
The ground-breaking science of quantum physics explains to us that you and I – indeed, everything in our world and in our universe – are energy. Nothing more, nothing less. And the manner in which we manage our energy has a direct moment-to-moment impact on our lives. Every action that you take, every word that you say and, most importantly, every thought that you have is an explicit use of your energy. I’ve placed heavy emphasis on thought, placed it higher in the order of things than either actions or words. The reason is simple.
“Be the Change You Want to See in Your Lifetime…” - Mariano M. Jauco _____ Increase Your Dignity and Respect I recently read a story about a person named Jim Rohn, who is probably the classiest business teacher on the planet. Jim is in his 70’s and has spoken to millions around the world; perhaps you have heard him speak. Jim was traveling in Carmel, Califo ia, with his wife before they were married, and they pulled up to a gas station. The attendant cleaned the windows and offered to vacuum their car; he was very friendly.
Myself and my family recently spent an evening on our balcony star-gazing – watching the annual Perseid Meteor Shower – when the earth passes through a band of wayward comet grit. Many people might just see one shooting star in their lifetime – but, in the space of about twenty minutes, we counted a dozen. It was a humbling experience. Here we were, five insignificant dots on the balcony of a house – no more than a dot on this planet which, in itself is no more than a tiny pebble spinning at high speed through a vast space.
You’re one of those people who want to, to quote Oprah, live your best life. So, you’ve read the books – you know the ones, those feel-good self-help books. And you felt good while you were reading them. But your life has gone on much as it did before – with the normal stress and worry of everyday life – and, instead of feeling good, you don’t even feel bad – you feel worse! Because you’ve explored, you’ve read about it, you know that it works for others (or maybe all those self-help authors are just making it up!) and you’ve discovered that it hasn’t worked for you.
Are cell phones appropriate at the dinner table? For many, the answer is an obvious “no.” Not only answering a call or viewing a text at a meal, but also placing the phone on the table or refusing to turn it on silent are considered rude gestures while dining. Yet for a younger generation constantly connected through text messaging or email via cell phones, perceptions of what is rude and what is acceptable vary greatly. Feelings are mixed as to whether the presence of cell phones at the dinner table truly are inappropriate, and to what degree it is proper to use them.
Who you are, including your dreams, will not be more important to someone else as you will be to you. Yes, you are the only one who will have a vested interest in your life and in your dreams. Many times we want others to value us, we want them to consider us important to their lives and we want them to take an interest in our dreams.
Change is often very difficult for people to accept and yet it’s happening every minute. The only thing certain is change. When you find that things are not as you want them to be in your life, it’s time to get comfortable with change. The Comfort Zone Change means many things to people. It ...
It’s not at all a cake walk trying to build a successful MLM business these days. For one thing, you have a ton of competition. Good competition from all the other legitimate MLM home business opportunities.
Identifying Personality types is a valuable tool and skill that allows you to understand the basic construction of your own character traits and the personalities of those who you interact with in your family and social network. It empowers you to "know" how to relate to others(and how they relate to you).
When was the last time you took an honest look at the life you’re in today? Does your life represent a path you’ve chosen for yourself? Is it based on your dreams and created by decisions you’ve made about how you want to live each day? Or did you simply happen into your current life as a result of circumstances. Maybe you’re living a good life, not all that you dreamed it would be, but it’s okay. After all a lot of other people have it tougher, right? There Are Two Ways to Live Your Life
Consider the thoughts that go through your mind on a daily basis – the fears, doubts, criticisms, and judgments. If you knew that other people have the same thoughts about life, their mate, their kids, the organization, about their co-workers and bosses, and about themselves as you have, ...
here have been so many books and examples about the power of positive thinking that it seems unnecessary to even mention it. Yet, I still see examples every single day of the power that negative thinking has over people. So, either people haven't gotten the message or they're just plain not paying attention. I hope that doesn't include any of you, because I don't have much tolerance for that kind of attitude.nnWhen I started thinking about writing this piece, I realized that
Sarah-Jane reached a near death point many times in her life until she demanded that things change or life was not worth living anymore. After spending years searching for the answers and trying to make sense of the insanity of her life, years of trying to do what was supposed to bring happiness, she reached a breaking point. Surviving suicide, chronic disease, mis-diagnosis, labels and mental breakdown, she realized that there had to be more to life than this and if there wasn’t she was not interested anymore.
Real life is full of possibilities and opportunities that the normal mind is unaware of. That’s because the normal mind is rarely present – our subconscious mind expends most of our energy focusing on its internal ‘stored knowledge’. Taking the psychological-speak out of the last sentence, we are normally living in the past – and we’re completely unaware of it. In fact, generally speaking, we’re unaware, full stop!r
I was recently asked the difference between a "Leader" and a "Manager or CEO". A very important question at a time when those with real leadership qualities will outshine the "normal" people who've risen to a position for which, in reality, they are ill-equipped. Which leads me to the title of this article. I prefer to be a little more upfront and call a spade a spade. Because, if you're not a "leader", regardless of what position you hold in your work or in life, you're missing out on the unlimited possibilities that life has on offer for you.
