How do you become conscious of your Self - that is, your true or spiritual self, rather than just your inner speech and the voices in your head replayed from the past? Direct conscious effort is necessary. You become more conscious just by asking yourself, "What thoughts am I conscious of right ...

All intimate relationships are supported by two pillars: Intimacy andSafety. Intimacy implies both closeness and communication (Holmes, J.Attachment, Intimacy, Autonomy, J. Aronson, 1996.) The more we communicate with one another, the closer we get. The closer we get, the easier and deeper our communication.
Do you desire a healthy life, but feel like the road to that lifestyle is an impossible one? The truth is that a life of vitality and energy is within your reach.
A Gay Man’s Lifer Sherry Joiner Living A Life With Schizo-affective Disorder Lecturer and In Our Own Voice Speaker for NAMI As I sit a gallery in Portland, Oregon, where my paintings hang with other artists, I’m looking at a photo. That’s me in the denim jeans and white laced blouse with my brother’s arm around my shoulder. He has a dusky Afro and a wide Portuguese smile. A happy picture. I remember stroking his soft brown curls when he was a baby. I sat him on my lap and he stared into my eyes with his bright blue eyes, grabbing the strands of my red hair with his tiny hands.r
Anxiety is more than just a feeling. As a product of the body's fight-or-flight response, anxiety involves a wide range of physical symptoms. Because of the numerous physical symptoms, anxiety sufferers often mistake their disorder for a medical illness. You may have visited many doctors and ...
What Your Appearance Says: One’s facial formations and body gestures are very telltale. Eyes: How much people open or close their eyes while talking to you is an indication of how much they are revealing of what is on their mind. Wide open eyes tell everything, those with extremely wide open eyes demand expression and cannot keep anything back. They have difficulty holding any secret. When someone closes his or her eyes while talking to you, so that only a narrow slit is op
Each one of us has a story that is its own beautiful tale and we can learn a great deal when we choose to share our stories with one another. Because of this, I have chosen to share my patients'stories and experiences in this book. I have learned that without focusing upon the human element of ...
Sure, you've thought about curtailing your procrastination habit instead of trying to justify it. But it's hard to do. You have your ingrained patterns. You're always busy with something. There are never enough hours in the day. If you've been unsuccessful so far, it could be that you haven't found the right approach. Most 'how-to' programs highlight developing better organizational skills and discipline. Those are good skills to learn; but they're not enough. Why not? Because many habits - including procrastination - are driven by unconscious personality traits and emotional needs.
“Sometimes, you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.” In our article about Leaving a Narcissist, I spoke about knowledge being your best weapon. Only with knowledge about what is happening, how it is happening, and how to counter can someone who is brainwashed begin to fight back. Once the person is out, we add to knowledge, “developing a different observer”.
Self help is a viable option in many cases of metnal health difficulties and disorders. In fact, whether someone gets professional help or not, self help should and must be a part of the healing process if there are going to be long-term gains in mental healing. If we go to a doctor and lay ...
Within the body there is an organ. This organ pumps blood throughout the entire body, nourishing it with the oxygen that has been picked up from the lungs. Everyone knows this organ is there, and everyone holds this organ in high esteem for the job it performs day after day. When this organ is running smoothly, not much attention is paid to it. However, when it is not moving so smoothly, that is quite another matter.n Of course, this organ is the human heart. Although physica
Article: Written By Renee L Richardson Sharing Within an Intimate Relationship: How much is too much? When we fall in love, we are ecstatic over our newly found love. It seems as though all senses and usage of boundaries are set aside in the attempt to not appear as uncaring, selfish, hard-hearted beings. We become preoccupied with our looking good for the brand new love of our life thereby forgetting about protecting ourselves. Why on earth would we need to remember to kee
According to a study recently reported from Baylor University, children who played 6 hours of videogames that aimed at health-promoting dietary choices ended up 2 months later eating more fruit and vegetables. While many research findings often give bad news about the unrestricted use of technology by children, this report shows how this powerful medium can definitely help kids .
These days we all know only too well how the act of one person can and does have a profound effect on us all; equally we are all responsible for the effect we have collectively on both the planet as a whole and on each individual. In the early stages of this new century, the two areas of most ...
With the fast paced lifestyle that is so common in the modern world, and the ever increasing focus on getting things done, it is easy to overlook the importance of healthy food and exercise. More and more foods are processed and sold âready to eatâ so that people donât need to spend time in the kitchen. With this being said, it is even more important than ever to make sure that you are getting all of the nutrients that your body needs. Many prepared foods are stripped o
The Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is not a new psychological construct. In previous centuries it was called "egotism" or "megalomania". It is an extreme form of pathological narcissism. The Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is one of the four personality disorders in Cluster B (dramatic, emotional, or erratic). It was first described in the DSM III-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) in 1980. The ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), published
I have always longed to get married and have a family and I have always believed I would. It never occurred to me that it wouldnât happen, not until recently. At 38, I thought: thereâs still time. At 39, I thought; thereâs still a little time. And at 40, I am finally facing the reality of the reality: It may not happen. From age 20 till now, as I have been âwaitingâ for my prince charming to come along (all the time believing he would), I went out and lived an extra
Stalkers have narcissistic traits. Many of them suffer from personality disorders. The vindictive stalker is usually a psychopath (has Antisocial Personality Disorder). They all conform to the classic definition of a bully. Before we proceed to delineate coping strategies, it is helpful to ...
As a speaker, writer and leader I’m always looking to follow in the mind-prints of, or at least understand and hopefully emulate, Nobel-prize winning scientist, Albert Szent Gyorgyi’s “elegantly simple” words: “Creativity is seeing what everyone else has seen and thinking what no one else has thought!” With originality as frame, form and function, what are the key skills and strategies for exploring new performance possibilities, generating potent ideas, inspiring others and strengthening my creative output as a word artist – whether on the stage or the page?
Even though it is interesting to note that recent reports state female workplace bullying is on the increase, causing more people to say they would rather work for a man, we are going to stay focused on the female family serial bully. I believe bullies know they are bullying. I believe you don’t wake up one morning as a competent bully. I think you learn bullying over time and by attending “mean girl school.” (I am not sure what “mean girl school” means, but I imagine it is a combination of watching other bullies, having been bullied and deciding to retaliate by bullying others.)
I've been giving a lot of thought to this concept of anti-aging because every time I turn on my computer I see ads for anti-aging x, y, and z products. Is anti aging possible? Can it be a reality? Do you want it to be real? You might disagree – but in short - I don't think so. Aging is a process that starts when we are born - we get older every day! It's that plain and simple; then again I am a developmental psychologist and look at forward development; not backward. Aging is a process, it has a beginning, a middle and an end.
Donovan, 16 years old, is incapable of loving and, therefore, has never loved you, his mother (or, for that matter, anyone else, himself included) in his entire life. His natural capacity to love and to return love was all but eliminated by his horrid childhood. We practice loving first and ...
Resiliency and Recovery have a nice ring. The two R’s! Having a backbone makes this process a lot easier. Resiliency is having the ability to adapt in the face of adversity. The more you know yourself, the greater your self-awareness, and the greater your backbone, the greater your chance for success in your recovery.

All bullies and addicts have one thing in common â they believe they are inadequate in one way or another. Typically thoughts of inferiority result from common life events. This article explains how these thoughts manifest and have the potential to spawn bullying behavior and addiction. When Scott Gallagher was a child, he began to think there was something wrong with him. These thoughts started out simple enough. At first, in the second grade, he listened to a classmate ta
Over the last decade of working in the field of Psychotherapy and Coaching, I've met many clients who had a rather negative experience or no results at all as they worked with some of my colleagues from various locations and branches of Psychology. During school life everyone come through those few children who sit by themselves and donât say anything, donât look around, and donât seem even the least bit interested in getting involved with classmates. None of us ever think about the reason for such behavior rather most of the children make fun of them and isolate them by providing the tag of weird. In most of the cases such behavior arises due to mental disorders, the child might not behave the typical way on thei
The step from experiencing sexual urges to acting out on them, in my opinion, is still what should be the measure of a man – or a woman, for that matter. Individuals, in fact, are not only governed by their physiological urges, but are molded by powerful cultural, social, emotional, and moral forces that mediate these urges and, optimally help create and maintain a balance between wishes and impulses on the one hand, and the cognitive abilities on the other that help disce what’s appropriate and what’s wrong.
Life is rarely a smooth ride where everything goes to plan. There are many uncertainties, unpredictabilities and hiccups along the way. But the more you are able to adapt to new conditions, the less painful the process becomes.
Tiger Woods has one. So does Andre Agassi. Almost every college pro team, major league pro sports team and Olympic team has one. Virtually every pro golfer and pro tennis player has one. What do they have? A Mental Game Coach. These top sports stars are smart. They're good already. Even great. Some are all-stars and superstars. Why do "they" have a mind coach? They want to maintain their excellence. And, they want to get better.
“I don’t believe in psychotherapy.” “Therapy is for crazy people; you’re not crazy.” “Therapy is for narcissists who just like to hear themselves talk.” “Therapy is for weak wimps who can’t solve their own problems.” “Therapy is for whiners who complain about everything.” “Therapy is like talking to a friend; why pay someone when you can talk to me?” “Therapists are crazier than you are; why listen to them?”

Ever since Freud, more women than men sought therapy. Consequently, terms like "hysteria' are intimately connected to female physiology and alleged female psychology. Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have for avoiding, reducing or better managing stress. Jesus taught that we "OUGHT ALWAYS TO PRAY." (Luke 18:17) We pray when we silently or vocally talk to God. Our prayers can be spontaneous, such as "THANK YOU LORD THAT I AM ALIVE."or we can express concerns such as, "LORD, LET ME REMEMBER THAT EVERY WORD THAT I SPEAK REFLECTS MY EXPERIENCES OF YOU. TEACH ME THE WORDS THAT LIVE." One of my favorite prayers is the one Jesus taught
What you take along with you-just in case you might need them-and in what type of handbag you place them can be quite self descriptive. This summer in particular, we had some pretty spectacular athletic competitions in England, France, and more recently, Rio. Whether you follow cycling, tennis or any of the competitions that took place in Rio, it is hard not to be inspired and learn from some of the stories. Stories and Goalsr First, all athletes come with a story. If we spend any time reading about and/or watching the athletic events we have been blessed with this summer, we begin to become a part of these people’s lives.
Learn self-hypnosis, an easy, predictable and powerful tool for self-growth. In coaching or therapy at PsykosyntesForum (http://psykosyntesforum.se) we often use methods for working directly on a subconscious level. It can be inner visualizations, subconscious reprogramming, methods from CST (Cognitive Script Therapy, http://www.psykosyntesforum.se/services_cognitive_script_therapy.htm), inner explorations along the Life Track or inner meditative processes. These methods have in common that they bring the client down into a state of deep relaxation.

More than twenty years ago, stress was the cover story in Time magazine. Stress was referred to as “The Epidemic of the Eighties” and it was referred to as the nation’s number one health problem. Flash forward to 2007. Results were released on December 12, 2007 from “Stress in America,” the American Psychological Association’s annual survey of stress in the general public in the U.S.

All of us at one point in our lives have probably suffered from low self-esteem. We live in a world where people always judge one another and always compare themselves to others. As a result, many people end up having to deal with a very low self-esteem that can seem to affect all the aspects of their everyday lives. When you keep being subjected to negative influences and negative thoughts of others, the way you view yourself is very likely to be affected. Low self-esteem ca
Today in the paper there was an article about Tom Cruise and Kate Holmes getting divorced. This news, in and by itself, wouldn't have been very surprising, given the high rate of divorce in Hollywood. What was unusual about it, however, were its circumstances. The reporter speculated that the reason for this divorce was possibly a wedding contract Kate Holmes and Tom Cruise had signed at the beginning, stipulating that they would be married to one another for a period of five years. Apparently now the five years are up, so the contract becomes null and void.
